Fassel on the team’s situation at kicker: Well, we got Tristan (Vizcaino) on the roster

I can’t understand how Maher isn’t the best option.

Guy had 17 good games and two unexplainably bad ones.

Did a blade of painted grass really make that much of a difference?

Good to see someone from the team at least acknowledge that Maher had a good year outside of what happened at the end.

"I think everything is on the table," Fassel said. "Let's face it, if you look at Brett, he had a great year. He had a bad game. But he played 22 game, but he had a bad game-and-a-half. I think everyone's on the table. I'm proud of what Brett did here. If he gets a shot here or somewhere else, I'm sure he'll perform well."

He doesn't want a job? Because nobody else is giving him one...
Yeah, that's why I don't actually believe what I said. He's looking for work, so I'm sure he wouldn't turn down an offer. I don't really understand why we don't just sign him to secure his rights before someone has an injury or something. I guess our feelings if he signs are oh, well, we can just sign Crosby or Gould or ... trouble is, those players weren't as accurate as Maher last year and it's not likely to get better for them since they are older and have a lot of mileage on their legs.

I'd probably be willing to try someone like the XFL's John Parker Romo before going with the old guys, but he's supposed to be trying out in Detroit.

Our week one kicker may be someone who is in a legit competition elsewhere and narrowly loses. Maybe a kid who impresses but that team has a good incumbent.

That may be a better bet than someone they aren’t currently digging for and can’t find.

Did any team sign a UDFA? I’m quite surprised we have not as of yet.

Andre Szmyt, Tanner Brown, Christopher Dunn (I was interested in him), Jack Podlesny, Blake Grupe, Trey Wulff ...

I mean, other teams at least took a stab at it. The team that got Dunn (the Rams) brought in two rookie kickers.

The also may be a decent shot a veteran that’s still pretty good gets cut because they go with the younger, cheaper guy.

It’s helluva lot to leave to chance for a team that has SB aspirations, but I also wouldnt have wanted to spend the capital needed to get Moody or Ryland.

I wanted one of those two, but not for what it took to get them. I don't understand not bringing in anyone else so far other than Vizcaino, though. I'd be holding open auditions for kickers until I found a couple of good candidates.

Of course, I wanted to bring in Eddy Pineiro for competition last preseason even after we brought in Maher to compete, so what do I know?

I like having a kicker with a big leg. I'm willing to sacrifice a little accuracy for a guy who can kick a 60 yarder to win a game if need be. Most probably aren't willing to do that. They want the most accurate.
I prefer they have two big legs for better balance.

a little accuracy yes, but if you keep missing XP attempts that's leaving a lot of points on the board.

Maybe Maher doesn't want to come back after Jerry said the team would be moving on.
Jerry pretty much iced Maher, by coming out onto the field before the San Fran game, putting his hand on his shoulder, and giving him one of those one-on-one Jerral Wayne Jones pep talks...
