Considering our offense with its accuracy-challenged QB and its propensity to flame out with short drives, we need someone who can kick 50+ with regularity. There's only one guy like that available. And with several old guys reaching the end and the possibility of injuries, that guy won't be available for very long.

Guy had 17 good games and two unexplainably bad ones.

Did a blade of painted grass really make that much of a difference?

TBH I dont remember Maher missing a kick in the reg season. He had a bad Tampa game. Made both FG's against SF and had a PAT blocked.
The team should sign him to a 500 million dollar contract immediately and start working an extension.

My Guess at it: - Club would already be instantly be on fragile egg shells, just having Maher back, and the very minute Maher misses his next extra point here again
would just send them into such a whirlwind fear factor.

For Maher to be such utterly siked out by whiffing extra points, at season's end to where he simply could not recover, probably scared the crap
outta the entire staff,..and they themselves could not recover also.

They obviously do not want that very feeling again... and be in that kind of position again.

Would much prefer to start from scratch and wish for the best. .. elsewhere.
