I still think WR Flowers would be smart, at the top for Dallas.
There are seemingly a number of deserving individuals.

Zay Flowers is certainly one that I wouldn't have any problem with.

There are also a couple of outstanding left guards that strike me as deserving, also.

When other teams paid Williams and McGovern good money to leave in free agency, can they be considered ‘strike outs’?
yep, if they weren't good enough to keep then they obviously were not worth the money. Let other teams overpay for poor talent. You don't have to be the one to do it.

I wouldn't mind WR and then RB in the first two rounds. Then an offensive guard round three...vice versa on 2 &3 if quality is higher there.

Imo it’s time to start rebuilding the oline now. I think lamb, cooks, and Gallup is a solid starting line up.

Agree .....this is what happens when you strike out on CWilliams, McGovern, Ball, and the multiple UDFA linemen they have signed. Martin won't be around much longer and the jury still out on Biadasz ... not only do they need linemen, but they gotta hit on the picks. So it is a major problem area on the team.
CWilliams and MCGovern left for more money
I wouldn’t say they were strike outs at all
They are both starters in the NFL

Don’t forget Walesko. He was looking good before he got injured.
I’m interested in seeing him. Coming out he needed to grow physically and tighten up his technique
Hopefully he can develop into a future starter

Money the Cowboys didn’t have, and prices that the Cowboys couldn’t afford.

If they were “poor talent”, they wouldn’t have gotten the money that they did.

There seems to be two possible strategies.

One, they draft a player they believe can start immediately or sometime during the next season. That would be their first round pick or a second rounder if they believe that guy was a real steal that somehow stayed off the radar of the other teams.

Two, they could draft for immediate depth with the potential of starting in a season or two.

Tyler is an example of #1 and I think Biadasz is an example of #2.

They could possibly do both.

Speaking of which, guys like Farniok, Waletzko, and Bell haven't been spending the entire offseason doing nothing. You can be sure they have been working at getting stronger and preparing for their next preseason in the hopes of demonstrating their improvements. One or even two of these guys could surprise us. The team may already be convinced that they have more depth than we suspect.

How many times have we brushed aside current, low drafted players while concentrating on the new draft class only to be pleasantly surprised by what the Cowboys already had? There are plenty of guys that we thought were toast only later to find out that they were capable of being very productive starters.

How many times have we tried to get rid of players like Armstrong, Schultz, Rush, Biadasz, and Steele? We never know....

Instead of TE for first pick, have no problems at all taking either the big OG from TCU or the big OT from Tennessee.

I’m all for devoting considerable resources to both the offensive and defensive lines. If anyone has watched our recent playoff appearances, getting overpowered on both sides of the ball has played a major role in our losses. I’d like to change that.
I agree. Devote a lot to the trenches! We seem to ignore that too much in the middle of the Def.

Always wanted to tell you @Stash love the avatar.

Smitz at 26 would be a steal. He can play all 5 line position's.

So tired of comments like this (from the article): "That being said, the Cowboys currently have a surplus at tackle, assuming Tyron Smith can stay healthy for a lengthy period of time..."

Just exactly what evidence does anyone have that supports this "wish"? And before I get attacked, let me make clear Tyron is, and has been, one of my favorite Cowboys players, and that he's a sure-fire HOFer, and deservedly so. Nothing against the man as a person or player.

But he hasn't played a full season for SEVEN YEARS. It's extremely unlikely he's going to stay healthy for "a lengthy period of time" in 2023. Why the team continues to hope against all hope he will or think he's the same Tyron as 7 years ago boggles the mind. EVERYBODY gets old and doesn't play as well as he used to, some just take less time or more time to do so. Even Tom Brady finally declined.

And as far as Farniok, Edoga (sic), etc. goes, if they were top guards/tackles, they'd have shown it before now and would be locked up in a deal like Lane Johnson or somebody similar.

Cowboys need another Tyron Smith, another Zack Martin, another Larry Allen or such on the o-line, and they need one now. Quit *****footing around with reject players or low draft picks, and draft a bona fide starting NFL guard or tackle, doesn't matter which one, just do it!

Williams pick 50
McGovern pick 90

Mid 2nd and bottom of the 3rd.

Both guys delivered on their draft status. Sure, I'd like more. I expected more from both. Liked both picks a lot.

Connor Williams in particular has delivered on his pick. He's a very good player. We drafted him young, moved him to a new position, a position that requires the most strength on the oline. Very tough row to hoe for a young player. Olinemen grow into their bodies and their strength probably through 27. 28. None of our oline studs made All Pro until they were 24. Williams was 21 when we signed him.

Well, often guys are overpaid in free agency.

Occasionally, underpaid.

IMO, Williams is a *much* better player than McGovern, and yet they're making about the same, if not McGovern more.

I don't buy the "somebody paid him, so he must be worth it" line. Teams make mistakes in free agency. Often.
