you the man...

that was the day when they did not show replays much at all..

that was an absolute hit from hell.

henderson came up the middle untouched and damn near killed him.

Yep, a bad day to be playing QB and wearing orange.

:D

That game with Bryant Gumball had to be the worst I've ever heard (note I said Bryant, not Greg).

As to best, it would have be a tie with Summerall/Madden and Cosell/Meredith/Gifford.

I'm glad to see Moose mentioned - I think he does a very good job with commentary.

I know he's much hated, but I don't mind Joe Buck. The Buck-Aikman team is solid.

We're lucky as Cowboys fans to have Brad Sham. Here in MN I hear the Vikings guy all the time - Paul Allen - and he's awful.

Madden and Summerall were enjoyable back in the day, but Pat retired a few years too late, I'm afraid.

I was very fortunate to grow up in the L.A. area where we had Vin Scully, Chick Hearn, and Dick Enberg as the local announcers. All 3 were outstanding! I really miss Chick when I watch the Lakers now. Vin Scully did NFL announcing for a while with CBS and he was very good at it but I will always associate him with the Dodgers. I think the fact that all 3 guys did radio primarily helped with their voice and delivery. Listening to Vin Scully announce a Dodgers game back in the 60s, as we were out in the backyard on a Summer afternoon is a fond memory for me.

Other areas had guys like Myron Cope (Stealers) or Johnny Most (Celtics). I can't stand to listen to those guys! Very annoying voices and total homers.

Brad Sham is very good though so you folks in the Dallas area have it pretty sweet.

They were very professional, that's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of them.

They never took away from the game they were announcing, you hardly noticed they were speaking because it flowed so well with the action on the field. It just blended in with the game and was a part of it rather than a distraction from it. That is a lost art IMO, as too many of these guys all want to BE the show and draw attention to themselves.

Pat and Tom added to the game.

I'll probably get a lot of flack about this but Phil Simms and Jim Nantz are my current favorites.

Of the greats Pat Summerall in his prime was the best I've ever heard. Wonderful voice, knowledge of the game, level headed... just a true professional.

1. Gene Deckerhoff and Dave Moore - There's nothing that smells like Buccaneers football more than these two guys. You can hear Deckerhoff's voice in the Madden football video game series (true story). It's been said that other Bucs fans around the country (internationally and domestically) enjoy this broadcasting team as well.

2. Troy Aikman and Joe Buck - They have come into their own. Buck's background in broadcasting other sports has lent a helping hand to Aikman. Buck has taken Aikman on his back and carried him to the success they now enjoy.

3. Dick Enberg and Dan Dierdork - I remember watching and listening Enberg back when I started following football back in circle 1997. What's cute now is that he makes up players' names during broadcasts. This adds a little extra entertainment to the mix. I think the multiple nose breakings has limited Dierdork in commentating ability, but luckily he has the rather large legend of Dick Enberg with him.

Very good analogy.

A friend of mine was taking a college course (can't remember what it was now) years ago when Deerdork was on MNF, and the professor was talking about how football was a homosexual rite. He pointed out various things in the game like how the Center takes a submissive position in front of the QB, who puts his hands... well you get the idea.

It was pretty lame IMO but it got us to thinking about it when we got together and watched MNF. We started listening to Deerdork and cracked up every time because so many of the things he would say could be construed as homosexual comments.

He would go on and on about some guys legs or buttocks, his "bubble", his squat, and so on. It was really funny and now I can't help thinking about that whenever Deerdork's name comes up.

My all time favorite comment (don't remember who said it) was in a game in the mid 80s between the Cowboys and 49ERs: "Tom Holmoe got good penetration on Glen Titensor".

In any sport: Pee Wee Reese and The Diz

Football: Olsen and Enberg

Am I the only guy who does not like Madden? He's repetitive and detracts from the game
