1. Summerall and Madden

2. Gifford, Cosell and Dandy Don

3. Verne Lundquist and whoever is paired with him

Verne Lundquist was another guy who falls into the group of great announcers but not necessarily connected with another one (I mentioned Keith Jackson & Jim McKay).

I'll probably get a lot of flack about this but Phil Simms and Jim Nantz are my current favorites.

Of the greats Pat Summerall in his prime was the best I've ever heard. Wonderful voice, knowledge of the game, level headed... just a true professional.

I think Simms and Nantz do a very good job

I liked Madden and Pat together. Today I like DJ and whoever they have with him and I like Troy Aikman but I really can't stand Joe Buck.

I don't mind Collinsworth either. I think he's pretty solid.

for football for me

Madden and summerall were the best. They are football to me. Nothing was better than a sunday afternoon in the autum and the winter listening to these two call a game.

Now its brad sham and babe laufenberg as the best announcing duo.

I have many favorites like jack buck on westwood one, verne lundquist on cbs, dick enberg on nbc, Phil rizzuto and bill white calling yankees games as a kid, gary thorne and doc emerick doing nj devils games and vin scully and joe garagiola calling the game of the week on nbc's baseball broadcast in the 80s.

It's hard to believe that Vin Scully is in his 60th consecutive year announcing Dodgers' games! He started in 1950 when they were still in Brooklyn.

1. Pat Summerall & John Madden
2. Al Michaels & John Madden
3. Kenny Albert/Moose/Goose

I hate to listen to both Joe Buck and Phil Simms.
