Oh, my young friend, you have been sheltered from greatness. The bolded are must watch movies. If you watched either Midway, Tora! Tora! Tora! is a must watch prior to that. From Here to Eternity would be a nice add as well since all center around the same event.

Sgt York would go well with To Hell and Back.

Murica ain't never beat The Body Snatchers, which is why they've made so many. They keep hoping we can beat them but nope, they win every time.

Saving Private Ryan is by far my favorite.

Glory
Enemy at the Gates
Lone survivor
Black Hawk Down

I also know that The Patriot isn’t historically accurate but I still love the movie.

Are we count 300 or not? Obviously it’s based off the graphic novel as opposed to being a historic war movie. Though it’s Very loosely based off an actual battle. But man the battle scenes in that movie are sooooo entertaining.

i loved the walt disney presents episodes of Swamp Fox....starring Leslie Nielsen as Francis Marion, aka The Swamp Fox.
i still think Mel Gibson's character in The Patriot was inspired by the swamp fox.

I didn't realize it was based on a graphic novel. That explains why it was so fantastical. I may have liked it more, had I realized they weren't just taking liberties with history.

Yes. It definitely helps to know that. Otherwise I could see why it would seem even further over the the top.

It is kind of unique in that it’s a movie, based on a graphic novel, that is loosely based on a real life battle.

It’s like 3 degrees of separation. Lol
