If 4 RB's, it looks like either:

1) Pollard
2) Jones or Davis
3) Deuce
4) Luepke

or

1) Pollard
2) Jones
3) Davis
4) Deuce

It seems like the more Deuce can offer, the easier it is to release either Jones or Davis. In that scenario, better performance by Deuce increases the likelihood of keeping Luepke, as it makes either Jones or Davis more expendable.

I think this is a pretty good take. Some are still clinging to Rico Dowdle, but I don't think he will be in the mix.

In my opinion, think both will make the final roster. MM had success using a FB in GB. Luepke is one of those jack of all trades, master of none. He was getting a ton of time with the first team offense in the OTA's, which suggests they have big plans for him. As for Mckeon, he oddly has the most experience out of the positional group. If they want to play more 12 personnel, they are going to need a deep group at the position.
Yet Big Mac has been a big advocate of keeping TEs..and I cannot recall the lat time we've only carried just 3 TEs.

as far as Hunter being able to flex from HB, to TE... it's one thing to move around and lineup at TE, ..but it's another thing to be able to block like TE

McKeon has been in sets where he has line up and blocked as a lead blocking FH like ...as well as in-line.

Now,.. could it become a case where one of the other backup RBs ( Malik, Deuce or Ronald) could lose out to Hunter Loop (instead of TE McKeon) at roster cut time ?
And I don't see us keeping more than 4 RBs

RB Unit
Pollard
Jones
Vaughn
Hunter Loop

TE unit
Ferguson
Hendershot
Schoonmaker
McKeon

I don't see Rico beating out either Davis or Ronald Jones.
I just do not feel comfortable keeping Rico at the expense of the other RBs roster spot, because he is just not durable reliable to last .. it's just only a matter of time.

Frankly I was surprised they even brought him back to camp.

I think they'd *rather* that Hunter worked out. Gives them more flexibility, and they already have 3 TEs long term to develop.

Also, there's a sleeper TE. Bostick for short yardage. Half his career til now was as a TE.
I had the sleeper TE as Richard Fant .. Maybe he could be an H-back type that lines lines up in a number of spots and formation ?

Don’t forget the contract situation between McKeon and Luepke as well. Years under contract makes a big difference. I’m on Team Luepke.
Very important factor. And McKeon has been around long enough to know what he is. That’s a run blocking TE only for the most part. But contract situation is huge

Yes, ..Bug Mac has had FB John Kuhn in GB, ...but Kuhn was a rugged Blocker First

- Then came the other elements and parts of his game such as catching and running Second
The very few FBs used by the few NFL teams are blockers first, catchers/runners second

- Blocking area has been pointed out as maybe the biggest concern with Hunter Loop.

- Otherwise we're just getting another Jamize Olawale all over again.

- We don't need a mere big RB with below average whiff elusiveness and speed.

The ability to play key roles in special teams will have to come into play.

McKeon has played on special teams in the NFL. Supposedly Hunter has special teams core play experience.
Yeah but even then I think you want your special teams players contributing to either offense or defense in some capacity. I don't see how both can make the team honestly. McKeon may be the odd man out if it comes to that.

Fant is an intriguing player. I just don't see how he fits? Too small for a true TE, and an H-back role is pretty narrow. Luepke might give you some of that too. Could he find a spot as the #6 WR? I like his athleticism.

You mean Princeton Fant?

He has just as good a chance of making the roster as Luepke does.

He offers an versatile skill set where he can run/catch, but you are right to make this team he is going to have to show that he is a capable lead blocker.

Agree, thing 4 is the limit at each spot. For Hunter to make the final roster he is going to have to beat out Rico/Malik/Jones or Vaughn. Think they will roster all 4 TE's listed.

If they try to pass Luepke through waivers they will lose him, probably to the Patriots.

Cowboys TE4 battle may oddly be decided by UDFA FB Hunter Luepke

The Cowboys generally like to keep four tight ends on their roster. A tight end can be an extra run blocker, an extra pass protector, a receiving threat and, at times, even a lead blocker.

But one player could disrupt their ability to keep a fourth TE in 2023
How did all 32 teams overlook the best player in the draft, I'm shocked that Luepke was not the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

Best bargain: Tom Brady in the 6th or Hunter Luepke as a UDFA....Cowboys win that debate hands down.

I really hope Luekpe works out. And is not just another TC hyped player that goes the way of Darius Jackson or Rico Gathers.
Most talented players in NFL history:
1. Matt Johnson
2. Hunter Luepke

I like this angle. Get rid of McKeon and keep Leupke if you have to find a way to keep him.

'Half his career til now was as a TE.'
Misleading statement.
Earl Bostick Jr. spent his first 3 seasons with the Kansas Jayhawks as an inline tight end - BUT ONLY FOR 147 SNAPS TOTAL.
2020 season - starting RT for Kansas
2021 season - became Jayhawks' fulltime LT for his final two collegiate seasons.
