Ya got any phobias? No? Look at this list of common phobias and answer that again.

I am claustrophobic to the point of leaving planes when I had to travel. I have to feel some kind of wind on me, particularly inside. I have mild Arachnophobia and also have Anginophobia because my least desirable way to go would be choking or drowning but I do not have a fear of the water.

I got trapped in a small men's room in a restaurant in PA 30 years ago when the lock jammed. It took them 20 minutes to get it unlocked and they finally just broke it open. They had an ambulance and cop car there because of the sounds I was making. The EMT's said my heart rate was off the charts and they immediately started an IV and tried to get me normal again. My wife and the other couple with us said I looked catatonic when they brought me out and I did not remember anything but pounding on the door and yelling when I first realized I could not get out.

Since that day, I have been claustrophobic. I have this friend that is a shrink and she said I didn't become claustrophobic because of that but that was the trigger. She said phobias can lie dormant and just show up and don't even need a trigger and I have friends that can attest to that. I cannot even watch movies where people are trapped in small spaces like closets or coffins or I start to feel my throat closing and my heart pounding.

Oh good, nothing about bees. I guess I'm not afraid of them!

Seriously though, while I'm not really claustrophobic, I have a deep fear of being buried alive, or being unable to move.

I have Acrophobia - not to the point that I freak out over any situation where heights are involved (such as being in tall building), but I will freak at being outside on or near a ledge, even if it's one I realistically have next to no chance of going over. When I was younger I briefly dated a girl that was into skydiving, and one day I told her I would do it to, but when we went the plane they used was having repairs done. I never went back, but I've often wondered if I could have gone through with it. One side of me tells me that I wouldn't have backed down once actually getting in the air, but I really can't say that with full convictioin.

A lot of the other phobias on the list are things that I'm mildly uncomfortable with, but I don't think anything that I'm irrational about or affected by enough to call it a phobia.

Yeah, I don't mind heights, but I HATE ladders.

The older I get the more I hate ladders. I guess I'm not as confident in my ability to get out of a bad situation if the ladder starts to lean or fall. In recent years I've gotten where I don't like getting on my roof even though it's only a one story house and the pitch isn't particularly steep.

Well, my current job has me carrying slightly heavy things up and down ladders. When ladders are shaky, there's not much scarier.

I have Arachnophobia. It all started when one night while I was sleeping. I was sleeping on my back and turned my head to the side and I felt something hairy touching my face. I opened my eyes and it was a very large tarantula on my pillow which was now touching my face! It completely freaked me out!

Anyhow, I went from laying flat to airborne and had the light switch turned on before I even touched the ground.

Ever since that day, I haven't been keen on spiders. When the movie Arachnophobia, I lost a bet with my brother and his payment was I had to go see the movie with him. It was rough to watch in the beginning when they started showing the spiders, but after a while I got used to it and it wasn't as bad.

Was this native to where you live, or was it a prank?

I was framing houses in New Hampshire one winter, right at the base of the White Mountains. One day, it was so cold you couldn't tell the plywood on the roof was frosted over. I took a couple steps and my feet came out from under me, and I was on my butt, sliding down the roof before I even knew I wasn't standing anymore!
Well, that roof was two stories high, and on the edge of a 75 foot cliff, and I didn't have time to try to pull out my hammer and sink the claw into the plywood.
We put a nailer (a 2x4, nailed to the roof) across for just such an event, so I stiffened up my legs and braced for impact, hoping that nailer would hold, which it did.
After a minute or two I stopped shaking enough to crawl back up to the peak, and over to the ladder.
I'm a lot more careful about roof condions now.

And did you find yourself needing to go to the bathroom and clean up afterward? That's scary as hell.
