Well not much to see here, they both did exactly what is thought of them anyway.
With CJ, people try to dog him and say he is just speed, but really they are downplaying how much speed we are really talking about with him. He has rare blazing speed, and that is just rare and scary from the RB position. The real question for him will be if he has the vision and patience to use that speed when he needs to.
Felix will look good in space with his vision and quickness, always will. When he doesn't have this space will be his test, cause you will see him decleated alot this season as that is something that just seems to happen to him.
With both of them the defense has to worry about if they can get their hands on them, but for different reasons. Problem I have with both of them is once the D gets their hands on them, what these 2 do then.
Have you really watched Felix Jones play? I've seen him play many times during the last three years, and that just isn't a fact. Did you see him run the football right up the gut and move the pile for 5 tough yards on Saturday? I didn't see much space on that play. Our line had a little push, and Felix stuck it up in there and used his power. Anyone who has really watched Arkansas' games knows that Felix Jones has power in his game. He runs the ball inside, and he is tough. He will lower his pads and pick up some extra yardage when he is getting tackled. We saw this on both his big plays in the preseason.
In 2007, Felix averaged 8.7 YPC in the SEC. Furthermore, only three RBs in NCAA history have averaged over 7.0 YPC (with a minimum of 350 carries) for their career. Felix Jones' 7.7 YPC (his three year average) is second only to Glen Davis' 8.26 (1943-1946). You don't put up those numbers if you get decleated every time your in tight space. In fact, it is just the opposite.
It is Felix Jones' ability to get out of
tight space and make people miss that differentiates him from other running backs, including McFadden. McFadden was the guy taking the hits while Felix Jones avoided the hits and racked up extra yardage and saved his body. McFadden looked to hit people at the second level if they were in his way. Felix made them miss. This idea that he "must have space" to be effective is false. Yes, you want to give him space, just like any running back. However, he can get out of tight places. We all saw it in the Chargers game on those two plays.
Felix can make a move on the linebacker and set the safety up at the same time. His vision and instincts allow him to see the linebacker and safety at the same time. This guy is a high character guy who has a ton of heart, and he wants to win bad. He would want in the games when things were going down hill for Arkansas if he wasn't in the game.
As far as Chris Johnson goes, several teams gave him a first round grade. He is really fast, but it isn't "us" just saying he was more of a straight-line guy coming out of East Carolina, without much wiggle or elusiveness, it was NFL scouts and GMs saying this. That doesn't mean he isn't any good or can't play. He is going to help the Titans this year. The thing the Titans have to be concerned about is Johnson trying to be Marion Barber when he gets to the second level. If he tries to run over linebackers and safeties in the NFL like he did at ECU, he could get hurt. He had a neck injury, and some teams red flagged him.
The Titans wanted Felix Jones. They would have drafted him for sure, but Dallas wanted him bad and knew this. They took Felix over Mike Jenkins. That should tell you all you need to know about how much Dallas liked Felix Jones. The Titans were worried Dallas would take Felix, and their fears came true on draft day.
Jerry put it on the Titans when he took Pacman for a 4th rounder, got the 4th rounder back, and took the player they wanted at number 22. It was revenge for the Joey Galloway trade. The former Seattle GM works for the Titans.
