with the ball in his hands, yes, Felix indeed is more dangerous. However, playing a receiving role is more about getting the ball, Bennett has a major height, size, and speed advantage at his position than Felix does and therefore is an easier target. Bennett has more receptions at this point in their respective careers. Felix is still raw as a receiver, not saying Bennett is fully developed, because he is not. However, he is much further along than Jones is.

speed advantage? you really CAN'T be serious...

as far as height and size, really?? Steve Smith... Desean Jackson...

The bottom line is Bennett is a much better receiver than Felix Jones, it is not even close. No matter how you slice it.

way to come back with absolutely nothing.

Felix Jones is faster and can cut better than Bennett. this is a fact.

The whole mentality of the defense has to change when Felix Jones is on the field. The oppositions coverage units on ST's rather concede dictating where the ball goes as opposed to giving The Cat even the most acute of opportunities to put 6 more up for us.

Other than Devin Hester, we might have the most dynamic returner in the game. Felix Jones is a closer and a home run any given touch. In baseball, you need 2 different highly paid specialists to get those results.

I'd much rather line Felix Jones up as a WR than any TE in the league.

the only advantage Witten has over Jones is experience.

Felix Jones is definitely better with the ball in his hands than Martellus Bennett. But Bennett can run better routes, go up to get the ball better and is the surer receiver.

Felix isn't going to catch the tough balls in the end zone that MB will. But he sure as hell can take the rock from any point of the field once it's in his hands as well as anyone in this league, that's where Felix trumps MB regarding impact during the game. He's also much more valuable because of his ST's contributions.

the only reason Bennett is a better route runner is because that's what he does. the question is whether Felix or Bennett would make a better reciever. if Felix learned the WR routes, there would be no contest.

Felix doesn't need to catch tough balls in the end zone. nobody will catch him if he runs by you. the same can't be said about Bennett.

The speed factor and what happens after the ball is in the players hand I totally agree. But if I have to throw the ball and ask a player to receive it, Martellus Bennett, at this point, gives any offense in this league more options to do so than Felix Jones.

A corner will have a much more challenging time contesting the ball once it's in the air with Martellus Bennett as opposed to Felix Jones. Defenses will have a much more challenging time containing Felix once the ball is in his hands as opposed to MB.

I thought the discussion was about who is a more important weapon. If Felix learned to run the routes like Bennett is right. If he could. But he can't. If Martellus could learn how to run between the tackles like a rb he would be able to carry the ball more than Felix. If. But he can't. 2 different animals with 2 different skill sets and rightfully so.

I choose Felix Jones.

RBs see the ball more. Speed is something this offense has lacked since we lost Terry Glenn.

Also, Felix is more effective with more space. In the end zone it's very tight and physical running or receiving as I'm sure you know. MB is much more competitive in the air with tight coverage than Felix Jones. But MB is not going to curl and cut around those tackles 20 yards to the end zone like Felix either. Someone has to be able to catch tough balls in the end zone and that's what the best receivers do.

Felix Jones is much more dynamic and talented as a RB than Bennett is as a TE. Many will argue that but it's a fact. felix is much more mature also.

And, asking whether we should prioritize Jones or Bennett is like asking if we should be a run-first or a pass-first offense. sorry, but give me run-first every time.

Felix can learn to run routes. Bennett is too big to make the cuts that Felix can and is nowhere near as quick. it's that simple. there's absolutely no proof in saying Felix Jones can't make tough catches in the endzone.

I'm done and going to bed.

how do you know? I believe Felix Jones has more heart than Barber, at this point, and would do what he needed to do to get a touchdown.

True... but they gameplan more for game breakers...

Bennett is a clown (not in a bad way, neccessarily), but he is definitely one the DC's fear more than an RB...

My first post in this thread says Felix is more important that Bennett. But Felix Jones at this point is not a better red zone receiver than Martellus Bennett. He does not offer as many options receiving as Bennett does either.

I rather be a run first team than pass first team also. But Martellus Bennett gets up in the air higher than Felix and therefore is more competitive when the ball is in the air than Felix is. His hands are apparently one of the best on the team according to training camp reports.

Felix's speed and agility cannot be taught and learning to run routes can be,you're right. How good Felix's hands are is an enigma for everybody, maybe even himself at this point. But we know MB can make tough catches in the red zone, we saw it last year.

My only point is that one is more an animal that is better suited to run the ball and happens to be more dangerous once it is in his hands. The other is an animal that is better suited to make leaping catches in tighter coverages and can run routes and find soft spots in defenses better than the other animal. Blocks better in the backfield too due to the nature of his position, size and what you would see during games.

I will reiterate though. I rather have Felix Jones than MB and although MB is a dynamic weapon that has unique athleticism at the TE position, Felix as unique a weapon as there may be throughout the game. Felix, if he can stay healthy may be a cross section of Marshall Faulk/Brian Westbrook, but more explosive, just not as much volume. To boot further /Devin Hester ala kick and punt returns. Not sure what other player in this league has all of those unique cross sections combined in 1.

A different type of player who may make changes to this game if he can stay healthy.
