Okay, I keep hearing how we need to play Choice more, start Choice, give it to Choice. Marion is injured, people say, and Felix is clearly not the same. But here's my suggestion: Give it to FELIX more! Folks keep saying he's not the same, but how in the world would you know?? Felix hasn't had more than 4 touches in weeks! He had 3 against Green Bay. THREE!!!
The way the coaches are using him, despite all the professions about needing to feature him more, is to bring him in once a quarter or so, give him a carry and if he doesn't break it... they pull him out of the game 'til the next quarter or so. It's UTTERLY ridiculous!
Emmitt Smith didn't break it on every play. Barry Sanders didn't break it on every play. NO ONE breaks it on every play, and running backs (yes, all of them) say that they get better when they're allowed to play for a while & get into a rhythm. It is asinine that Felix is averaging 1 touch per quarter. It is Jason Garrett's biggest failure as a coordinator so far this season.
Put him in for a series or two. Hell, even two CARRIES in a row would be a vast improvement. But our offense's unwillingness to get the ball in his hands is an absolute travesty of game-planning.
Don't tell me about his knee. They trusted his knee enough to let him return kicks and Wade Phillips has outright said Felix is very close to 100%. Don't tell me about blocking, either. Anyone with half an eye has seen Felix absolutely STONING blitzers since the Atlanta game, this last contest in Green Bay included. In fact, I don't think I've seen any of our backs block as well as Felix for a few weeks.
We spent a first-round pick on this guy. We've all seen his ridiculous explosiveness. WHY does our gameplan call for him to get one touch per quarter? Un-fricking-believable!
Before we decide that Choice is the best back and that we need to feature him more, we might want to feature Felix a bit more and find out what he might be capable of with several opportunities to shine. Bringing him in one time per quarter and hoping he uses that lone touch to take it to the house, and when he doesn't, taking him immediately out, is so mind-bogglingly stupid that I cannot fathom whose idiot mind is dreaming it up.
The Eagles have had such an explosive offense for so long, in part, because they FIND ways to get the ball into Brian Westbrook's hands. Not once or twice a quarter, but throughout the entire contest & unto the very end. He is their playmaker, and they let him make plays. Felix cannot make plays without the opportunity to do so, yet it seems like we are scheming to minimize his touches. When we had Emmitt, we got him the ball. The Lions gave the ball to Barry Sanders. The Rams found every way possible to get the ball into Marshall Faulk's hands. We're giving Felix right around four touches per game.
I like Choice. I like Choice a lot. But let's TRY featuring Felix a bit more before we decide Tashard is our best bet...
I am utterly disappointed in our unwillingness, inability and flat-out refusal to give him the ball...
