Few Thoughts/Opinions

Good writeup and some good and fair observations and evaluations. Thanks for your post.

Idk about backup qb. For sure we need one. But i dont think we will hire one. Not the way JJ is in love wirh Milton. I have seen this far too many times.

I would not worry about Toia. The guy is not an NFL player. Idk how we are able to find that kind of trash. Anyways... Better keep somebody else. Who? Idk. Everybody at one tech is just bad.
I do like Winfrey the most, agree the entire group is lacking.

Milton looks completely lost, it’s gonna take to much time for him to develop to just an adequate backup. Sanders can run a play that is called for him now. He is light years better than Milton/Grier. Sanders was a top 50 talent at quarterback. Cowboys should have drafted him over a small school old cornerback with a bad knee.
I watched Sanders a ton in college, not impressed with his game and how it will translate. Agree he is ahead of Milton, but he is suppose to be a franchise qb, Milton is a developmental prospect

-Very hard to evaluate our offense when our backup QB cannot complete a simple pass. Many three and out drives where the entire offense cannot find any rhythm. Milton has talent, but he is more of a developmental #3 QB prospect at this juncture. Cowboys have almost no choice but to find a capable #2 backup as Grier isn't the answer either.

-Good OL play is all about cohesion and play together as one. It is difficult playing multiple young players as they suffer through growing pains learning the position. What is most important is to get their starters back healthy so they can build on that chemistry with on another. Both Smith/Steele are expect to become key performers in their rushing attack.

-WR cutdown is going to be difficult. Lamb/Pickens/Turpin/Tolbert/Mingo if healthy are locks. Best special teamer probably is Brooks if they keep a 6th WR, but they might not be possible this yr.

-Tough cutdown for the Defensive line forthcoming. Say they keep 5 Edge, 5 DT's: Parsons, Fowler, EZ, Kneeland that leaves just 1 spot for Sam Williams, James Houston, Payton Turner. I am keeping Houston out of that group and looking to deal Sam Williams. As for DT: Osa, Thomas, Mazi, Winfrey, Toia. This leaves no room for adding a much needed veteran. Think Mazi is safe cause of his contract. Would they risk losing Toia or Winfrey to waivers?

-Really like what I am seeing out of the linebacker group. This should be no surprise as Eberflus is a former LB positional coach. Hell, even Damone Clark looks good. Actually have good depth at the position.

-Nickel corner is another position that is going to be difficult to cut down: Either Hall or Childress makes the team not both. I like Childress better cause of his tackling abilities. Does Carson factor in here as well?

-What are they going to do at corner? Do they put Diggs/Revel/Butler on the short-term ir? Not sure of the rules, but don't think they can do it for all three. Outside of Bland/Elam, they have street level talent. Almost have to add a veteran here.
How do we know that Greer is not the answer we haven't seen him yet I know we know what we think he is but I think he could do similar things that Cooper Rush did eventually cooper Rushes in Year 9 are going into year 10 people I get what you're saying though they might need to look into a veteran.

I would like to see Greer at least play the whole game next week or two and a half to three quarters like start the game maybe even putting Williams I may have said this before give him a couple of starting offensive lineman and let's see what he can do but I like to picture these guys playing behind a starting offensive line with the starting receivers starting running back starting tight ends you get the point throwing to the star wide receivers....

Pretty much if Prescott goes down anyway who's really going to carry this team with all the holes in it enough to get us on track I mean already predicting less than 10 wins for the Cowboys some have said three some have said 7.5 from Vegas with Prescott Somehow you think someone slightly better than Greer or Milton is going to help the Cowboys no it might help them get a better draft pick and maybe that's where we should have our heads...

I'm not saying you're wrong but I'm thinking maybe I need to see more of Greer with the starters I think he can possibly do what Cooper Rush did when he's with ALL THE starters..MAYBE

We have seen Grier in the past, in his opportunities he also has struggled. Not as bad as Milton, but still not good enough. You are right, if Dak goes down for a long period, season would be over anyway, but they need a backup who can come in and win a game if called upon

Diggs and Overshown are on PUP.

Revel on NFI.

If they stay on PUP/NFI then they don't count against the 53 but they can play the first 4 weeks.

Players NOT on PUP/NFI must be on the 53 for a day before being moved to short term IR.
Thanks for clearing that up
Do you mean they can’t play for the 1st 4 weeks?
Because if on PUP or NFI means they can’t play for 6 weeks, unless they changed it to 4 weeks.

You are correct they do not count against the 53.

If moved to short term IR, that is the 4 weeks. However I never seen that done before. It serves no purpose that I can see.
IR player must miss the 4 weeks, then a 2 week practice window. So it can be 6 weeks before a decision is made if they practice those 2 weeks. But they can keep them on it longer.

PUP and NFI I believe they can activate them at any time. Unless that changed also. So it does no good to put them on IR. Unless season ending IR. They can activate them after one game if needed. But after the 6 weeks they need to make a decision. Activate, release, or move to IR. But not sure what the rules is on that. Long term or short term.

These rules change all the time.

They even have a Practice Squad IR.

The IR related rules changed extensively a few years ago.

A player who finishes the preseason still on the PUP list can then be moved to the reserve/PUP list. Such players must sit out the first four weeks of the regular season.

Grier will be fine as the back up QB. Even with Rush who played well, it does not really matter. Once your starter goes down the season is over.

I see 6 DE's and only 4 DT's. We severely under estimate the importance of the DT position. I think this is also why they have experimented with Kneeland playing DT.

I think we are buying time and hoping one of our CB's gets healthy soon. If not they will go out and pick up a CB next week.

OK thanks for the Info. I will have a closer look.

Maybe i didn't recognize him because my eyes were clouded by overwhelming disappointment.

FWIW Dallas signed Linval Joseph on the 21st of August last year.
Acquired Phillips on the 14th as well.

So, wonder if we see another dumpster dive DT acquisition soon or if they will ride and die with Smith/Toia

For RB I'm not too worried.
It's just the defense, again, this year that has quite a few question marks and not too many answers popping up
