Wasn't the James Washington tripod thing against the Commanders? I thought it was. I remember one time when I was a kid my dad took me to the game and John Dutton ripped Conrad Dobler's helmet off and was swinging it at him. Good times.

I really thought it was against Buddy Ryan's Eagles. Remember, Troy got thrown down on a play that was called dead because of illegal motion (I think). The wistle was blowing and everyone stopped but one DL or LB who didn't hear the wistle. He got to Troy and knocked him down. Then one of the OL came (Gogan?) and knocked the crap out of the Eagle who did it. Then all heck broke loose in the end zone. I remember Gogan getting into a boxing position and stalking one of Buddy's defenders. It was then, out of the back of the endzone that Washington grabbed the tripod and started brandishing it like a weapon.

I know the fight took place... I'm just trying to remember if that was when James grabbed the tripod or not. I think it was.

The all time scuffle is of course Clint Longley sucker punching Roger Staubach in Training Camp, because he felt if he got out from under Roger's shadow he would be a star himself.

Reportedly he told Charlie Waters he knew what he had to do to get traded. Charlie asked him what, and he said "you'll find out this afternoon." He and Roger had got into a shouting match over some comment Longley made about Drew Pearson a couple of days before.

Roger had told people he would "knock those Bugs Bunny teeth" out of Clint's mouth.

Danny White was assigned to distract Assistant Coach Dan Reeves who they knew would break up the fight. Roger was removing his shoulder pads when Clint Longley sucker punched him right in the face.

Bad move. This is quoted by Danny White.

"They put me in charge of distracting Dan Reeves so he wouldn't break up the fight. I started trying to make stuff up to talk to him about and then we looked back up the hill and Roger was just wailing on Clint."

LOL - wow - I have never heard that before.......too funny....:laugh2:

In Danny Noonan's rookie season, Danny (the highly regarded #1 draft pick out of Nebraska) got into a scruffle with a free agent. They got into it, Danny took off the offensive lineman's helmet and proceeded to hit the offensive lineman's head with it.

I was mad b/c I was affraid that Danny might have hurt his hand. :) Stupid offensive lineman. His name, Nate "the Kitchen" Newton.

Funny how their NFL careers panned out.

Also don't forget about the Michael Irvin sisscors incident in training camp. Didn't Newman and Canty get into it this past year also.

One of my favorites was when Ekuban, following a rare sack, was dragging Jeff George (then with the Commanders) around the field like a rag doll. Even better, not a single Commander came to Jeffy's defense.

Wasn't that Brit/Bret Hagger of the Eagles that hit Aikman late?

I remember Harvey Martin roughing up Conrad Dobler once and I was so pumped to see that because it was usually Dobler who was roughing people up or cheapshotting them. Harvey got him on the ground and stuck his foot right through his face mask. Was never even penalized. The ref just got him off him and that was it. LOVED Harvey Martin - this current team needs a dose of that nastiness.

Conrad Dobler was the Bill Laimbeer of the NFL, a guy who would provoke other players but wasn't really willing to mix it up when it came down to it. All he was interested in doing was getting into guys' heads and getting them out of their gameplan, and it worked a lot.

My favorite was in 1990 (I believe) when we were playing the Eagles and they were sacking the heck out of Aikman. One hit was well after he had gotten rid of the ball and was in the endzone and one of the Eagles just leveled Troy and they piled on (no flag of course). Big Kevin Gogan came running in and plowed into the Eagles players, knocking them off of Troy, and stood over Aikman with his fists cocked, looking for someone to hit. He was one of my favorite players from that day on.

We don't see enough of that from our players now, guys who will rush in to protect another player, particularly the QB. Too often they are just standing around waiting to see if a flag was thrown (which it usually isn't of course).

The game where Randy White rips the guys' helmet off and tries to hit him with it was classic! He'd be suspended for the year now though.

I didn't read all the posts before I responded to one on the first page. Gogan was Da Man!

That was the story AsthmaField mentioned, too. I thought it was that old LB from UT, Hager that hit Aikman late. He was a jerk in college and it continued in the pros.

I disagree about Dobler and Laimbeer just a little. What they did was not always about trying to get into the opponents heads. They took cheap shots that could hurt players and risk injury. That kind of play is bull.

Roger whooped the heck out Longley which is what prompted Randy White to say that if he ever had to fight in an alley, he would want Staubach with him.

Bob Lilly said something similar about Roger one time. I was looking for the quote, but couldn't find it.

I totally agree, they were cheapshot artists. My point was that after they cheapshotted a guy they wouldn't stand and fight. Lyle Alzado was a rough dude who was known for laying late hits and cheap shots at times but he would also stand and fight if you wanted to.

Yeah that was Hager that did that. That was the famous bounty bowl game. I was at that game sitting in the end zone where it happened. Gogan did come to the defense real quick. The time Washington did it was on a Monday night I believe. It may have been the Giants but I thought it was Washington. Either way we need more stuff like this in today's NFL.

OK I found this quote about the Washington thing. I was wrong it was the Giants.

Recall last year's end-of-half brawl in the Dallas-New York Giants Monday night game? That was James Washington grabbing a photographer's tripod and threatening to use it on a Giant.

I think it was Julius Jones and Canty.

I'm pretty sure it was Newman and Canty in the locker room. I believe Canty pulled a prank on Newman and Newman wasn't too fond of it.

I seem to remember Randy White ripping off a Raiders helmet and hitting someone during a preseason game long ago. I think Madden said something to the extent of "Randy must of just wanted to sit this game out on this hot and muggy night" after he got tossed.
