Picked it up in San Antonio yesterday (Monday).

It's been a long time since I've seen one. I had forgotten how big those cars are.

Of course the car isn't in as good of shape as I had hoped, but it is about what I expected.

Gonna need lots of work, but no more then I expected. I need to get the car dismantled and take a look at the frame. I'm just hopefully there isn't TOO much rust on it and, of course, it's not bent.

I'm gonna go get myself an air compressor tomorrow, then head over to a paint/body shop and get some recommendations from them as far as what filler/putty/rust preventative etc... stuff to use. Just to make sure all the chemicals will be compatible with each other.

I've created a website if anyone is interested. It's in my sig, but here's the link anyway...

Link

Click the license plates on the front page to go to it respective page. Right now the only pics I have up are the ones that I got from the auction url. I'm gonna take a bunch of pics tomorrow if I don't run out of daylight (have a lot to do tomorrow).

Hope you guys/gals enjoy the site.

Happy for you Rack!!

That car has a ton of potential, can't wait to see the finished product.

Alot of hard work and some blood, sweat and tears and that baby will be awesome.

Congrats!!

Man oh man Rack, when you get it done I want to make a trip to Laredo for a ride. That's going to be a beauty. Is it a 440 engine or a 392?

I couldn't tell from just 1 still photograph.

:wink2:

It's a 440. :D

I'll be taking some pics in a bit. Gotta go run some errands first. Hopefully I'll get them resized and uploaded by tonight.

You will love that engine. It has such great compression. Mopar had awesome parts for the old 440. I haven't done any high performance crap in years so I don't know if they still do or someone else does.

Bottom line, you can make that sucker fly if you want to.

I'm jealous.

Ebay.

And the reason there's only 1 still photograph of the engine is cuz the guy that sold it only took one still photograph of the engine.

Updated the site. Added a few pics. Not a whole lot. Don't want to start adding a lot till I actually start doing stuff to the car.

I'm gonna start taking it apart tomorrow. I just have to organize and clear out some room to put the parts. I'm also gonna go pick up an engine hoist and engine stand tomorrow. The dealership my mother works for bought a used car dealership from Red McCombs. It included the hoist and stand, but they don't do any "heavy" work on cars there so they aren't being used. I got real lucky there.

Anyway, check the site out. If anyone has any suggestions regarding the car or the site, please let me know. I'm all ears!

My Dad builds Hot Rods as a hobby (40 years now). I love the older rides.

Looks like a pretty fun project.

Way to go Rack. What are the plans?

Tear that thing apart and basically rebuild it from the ground up. Gonna sand everything from the frame to the roof. :D

Gonna get started on some minor stuff today. Gonna remove the grill and backseat. After the mechanic finally comes by to look at it (and says the damage isn't too severe) I'm gonna pull the engine, hood, and fenders and get started sanding out the engine bay. Hopefully I'll be able to do that this weekend.

What the hell happened to you, S&T? You seem like a reasonably decent guy, you've got a cool dad... how the hell did you become a Commanders fan?

:D

I really have o clue about rebuilding cars.

But if everything goes well and without a hitch (which if you are anything like me nothing does lol) how long would guess it would take to get it fully restored?

In otherwords how much time do you think you will put into this project?

Believe me, things have already gone badly in some cases. I had made a LONG post about it last night but apparantly it had too many *'s in it.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get it done in two years. That's my goal. The first 3-6 months should be easy (financially) cuz it's mostly elbow grease that will go into it. A WHOLE bunch of sanding, filling, sanding, filling, sanding, etc... until I get the surface as smooth as a baby's butt. By the way, who the hell came up with that analogy? "Smooth as a baby's butt"... I've never actually felt a baby's butt so I really have no clue how smooth I have to get the surface of my car. lol

Anyway, I'll mostly be spending money on tools and supplies the next few months. However, if some of the body panels are too badly damaged I'll just buy new skins instead of trying to repair them. Although the mechanic I know says he can do some metal working. I don't want my car to be his gineau (sp?) pig though so I'll see what kind of work he does before making that decision.

I just finished clearing out a closet in my den (used to be the garage) and I'm about to organize another closet. When I'm done with that I'm gonna remove the grill and backseat. Clean them up a little and put them in the closets. That's all I'll be able to do today.
