Wow.

If it's not one thing it's another.

No word yet from squaretrade.com (not since sunday).

But get this... a friend came over earlier to take a look at the car.

Well, before I get to that... I was crawling under the car today trying to get a look at the casting numbers on the transmission (no luck).

Then 3 mechanics came over to try and get the engine running (no luck there either).

So me and these three guys are reaching in and crawling under this car for about 45 minutes earlier in the day.

My friend comes over a few hours later. It's dark so I have my flashlight out.

I shined it under the front of the front left fender and what do I see?

A FREAKIN' BLACK WIDOW!!!

Took a half a can of raid but I ended that sucker!

Tough little *******, he put up a helluva fight.

I'd be in the emergency room right now if I happened to get too close to him earlier in the day.

Now I'm afraid to go near the car. What if it had relatives living nearby?

Holy crap, those things are nasty. If you have a garage that you can close I would put it in there and get you 2 or 3 foggers and let those suckers kill whatever crap is left living in/on that car.

I HATE SPIDERS! lol

Black widows are nothing compared to a brown recluse spider. That's the one to fear.

If you haven't seen it, Google brown recluse spider bites.

Oh, and don't post the pictures here.

No kidding....if you get bitten by one of those on your hand you will learn to use the other one pretty quickly.

Oh I know all about those. But that doesn't mean a black widow can't whoop some serious butt.

I don't want to have anything to do with either one of them. :laugh1:

Sounds like you got sold a piece. I would return it.

The case is in mediation right now. The mediator finally responded today so hopefully things will get moving along now.

If the guy doesn't want to pay me back $3,500 then I'll end up requiring the full refund of my money and shipping cost at his expense. He'll end up paying me my money ($9,500) plus another 2K when it's all said and done.

On the bright side, I had been thinking of painting the car black with some kind of ghost image painted into it. I now know what ghost image I will be using.

So you thinking of a ghost image of the whole spider or just the red hour glass?

Either one would look pretty cool, and not only is it a good idea that will look cool but it also fits since you found one in it.

That could turn out looking much better than the standard ghost flames.

I'm thinking of having the whole spider done, but that might not be possible since the car will be black and black widows are black as well. If you lighten the color of the black widow it won't look right since it won't be black anymore.

I guess I could have the outline of the black widow lightened. After all it is suppose to be a ghost image. I'll have to have an artist paint it on paper for me so I can see how it looks.

Just the hourglass would be cool too though. That is if people understand it. To someone that doesn't know any better I'd just have a red hourglass painted on my car. :laugh1:

Also the black widow theme fits the car in another way. Not only would it fit cuz I actually found one in the car, but it would fit cuz I planned on having my interior red & black, the colors of a black widow. ;)

They could easily do a ghost image of the spider that is black on black and viewable. Those airbrush guys are amazing. I think that would be a great look. I'd love to see it.

Agreed, a person who is good at it could easily do it black on black.

The black widow itself will be a slight tad lighter over all do to all of the hi-lites to make it look three demensional (lights on legs, head and so on).

Ghost it out and even with those hi-lites it will be slightly off black.

A guy that knows what he is doing should have no problem with that.

If this project does keep going the black and red interior will look nice.

There is nothing wrong with an all black car, black will always be in style.

However to me if you put some color here and there it just makes the rest of the car look even blacker and look better.

My shiny wheels will be all I need to make the black look black. :D

I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to paint.

If I could do a 100% authentic restoration I would do it, but it isn't possible so I get to do it my say. :D

Besides that "traditional" paint is someone else's vision, not my own. I want my car to be one of a kind. ;)

Thanks to the very knowledgable posters over at the dodgecharger.com forums I was able to search a different part of the car to verify whether the charger really is an R/T or not.

There's a number under the weatherstripping in the trunk on the driver's side of the car. The last 5 digits of this number should be the same as the last 5 digits on the vin.

They did not match.

So the car isn't an R/T. I'll now be asking for a complete refund, plus a refund for the shipping costs. If he doesn't agree to it, I'll be taking him to court.

Well that sucks, but at least you know now before you put too much time into the situation.

You will also know what to look for in the future if you go to look at a car.

Sucks, but you do gain knowledge from the situation.

Hope you find a "legit" car next time.

Ok I may have a false alarm here...

Turns out those last 5 numbers on the trunk for the 68 charger are not the same as the last 5 on the vin (they started doing that in 69). They are actually the order number of the vehicle.

Might still be some useful information though. And it still may not be an R/T.

I just want this guy to refund some of my money QUICKLY so I can get started. The longer he drags it on the less anxious I'll be to work on this car. The less anxious I am to work on this car, the more willing I will be to take his butt to court and get ALL my money back.

Good luck with this. Hopefully it will end up being what you wanted and you can get started right away. I know how it is to get excited about a restoration project and then get shot down real quick!

Small update:

The guy at auction insurance agency finally talked to the seller. I should be getting the title to the car next week.

Not sure if he spoke to him about refunding any money. At this point, I just want the title so I can start on the car. I got screwed, it happens. I'll move on and hopefully be wiser for the next project car I buy (either a 70 'Cuda or a 67 GTO).
