Finally have a young staff in place will implement modern schemes!

Brian Shottenheimer has been doing the same thing for over 2 decades but hey he's the best!!!!!!!!!

Coaching is the most underrated aspect of the game of football. Unfortunately, this ownership group doesn’t value coaching much either.
Jerrah showed his butt right after canning Jimmy when he said (paraphrasing) "that any of 500 college coaches could have taken those teams to the SB".''It has been 30 years of hard lessons and tarnishing of the Cowboy brand to finally look like management (Jerry) might be on the right track.

Coaching, team management by Shotty, and talent balance will hopefully get us over the hump (like Seattle did in 2025). I still think 2027 will have the widest open window for a championship but the foundation seems to be getting set now with good minds, schemes, and talent meshing to make a good team.

Yeah, I am on the Hype Train guzzling the blue Kool-Aid.

Shotty is acting more as a manager and a GM right now more than anything else. Has he had some coaching blunders? YES! Getting turnovers, special teams were bad last year and the defense was a bona-fide disaster. He gets a mulligan for one year to show progress in those departments. I think I can see he is behind fixing this D by hiring one of the bright defensive minds in the game in Christian Parker.

Don't be this person ALL the time  :

I am not a Debbie Downer at all. I look at the real world. Great draft and glad to see Pickens saying the right thing. That gives me hope. Knowing Shottenheimer would not be a head coach anywhere else clouds my hope.

I remember a couple of months ago having a discussion with a fellow zoner who shall go nameless, but he basically claimed that by default the Cowboys defense was going to suck this year because there is no way to turn in around in one year... Of course I could see his thought process and I respected it, but I tried to explain to him that it's very possible to turn a defense around in this modern era with an infusion of great coaching and players... We have all been guilty of eating the cheese, but as bad as we were last year, we have to get better one would expect... I actually believe the defense will be pretty good this year, I think CP is exactly what we needed at the right time, and I expect my mid season to see a very solid defense overall, just a gut feeling...
Well they still have to prove itself out on the field and it won't happen overnight but we did see the transition from Mike Nolan's terrible defense to Dan Quinn making it respectable the very next year so it can happen it won't be the full vision that CP has that might take a couple off seasons take some time to develop.

I think it's the same way I think Brian Schottenheimer didn't get enough credit for how good his offense was last year and Year 1 second year installments like adding wrinkles to that offense is gonna happen again doesn't happen overnight but the offense looked great last year and I think it's gonna look even better this year especially the run game I think there's gonna be a lot more wrinkles and that's what happens if you can keep the same scheme and coaches 2 or three years in a row and let them get what they need in players so that way it use the full playbook..

The best thing about last year is they finally did a solid search to hire the right guy. Then they let him pick his staff. That's huge
Yes the right eye but more importantly his staff so the right staff you need a full defensive staff that can help him implement his vision..

And they got an all new staff on defense with the exception of one holder from Everfloocks staff.
  • J.J. Clark: The lone assistant from 2025 to stay on, transitioning to an assistant linebacker role. [1]

And supposedly they have the guy on staff to take over when Parker leaves.

It’s gonna be even more fun watching Parker fix this disgusting defense, then walk out the door to be the head coach of the Eagles while we have to retain Shoddy. Can’t wait for all that.

That is not an unlikely scenario

Younger does not necessarily mean better. I'm not buying the assumptions being made about this young staff. There is still something to be said for experience which this staff is lacking.
They’ve been trying the retread route, Marinelli, Nolan, Quinn, Zimmer and Eberflus. None of those worked out so why not try the up and coming DC coach?

You would enjoy that wouldn’t you.

...said the newbie with no experience. :muttley:. I believe there can be a correct mix of youth and experience. The question is, does the Cowboys coaching staff currently possess that correct mix?

Welcome aboard @BluMen. ;)
No experience? Okay….

Thank you.

The title from the OP is exactly what my thought was when I hit 16 years old.
