Fire Eberflus, Please

Kinda makes me reconsider my life choices. Like, there are things I didn't pursue because I didn't think I was talented or skilled enough. I think the old adage, "It's not who you are; it's who you know" applies even more often than we think.
It's the way the world works, actually. Luck has a lot to do with it as well.

Say they do fire him. What then?

Well, you have only 2 choices:
1. Promote one of the other defensive coaches to DC.
2. Hire someone from outside the organization to be DC.

In the first case, if those coaches were DC-caliber, they'd not be on this team, with Jerry running the show. So not likely they'd turn the defense around to any great degree. Making the defense a bit better isn't going to get this team to the SB.

In the second, so a new coach is going to come in and the defense is magically going to improve a lot? With this roster? You don't have a bonafide top pass rusher, one of your starting CBs is out for at least 3 more games, the DTs are mediocre, your best slot corner you let get away, your safeties are average at best.

Pointless to fire him at this point, best to work at improving the roster first, then see if he can do well.

After all, have you looked at the playoff standings currently? Cowboys occupy the 11th spot. With the resurgence of Seattle, etc. it's probably already past the point where this team will make the playoffs, and even if by some miracle they did, ain't winning it all, you're just dropping down in the draft, with the problems I noted above, you need all the high draft picks you can get...
Yes, I believe I posted this before the Cardinals game. I have no doubt that Quinn, and even Zimmer, could get vetter results out of these guys. If they could just move 5 spots up in every category, they may have had a fighting chance.

They should have fired him earlier in the year. Because you're right. It's too late to matter now.

I guess we'll see what he can do when Overshown, Williams, Revel are playing. But I still think there are much better options than Everflus. He was one of the worst hires they could have made--for these players, for stopping the run, defending the pass, etcetera.

In the NFL, you have to be able to blitz. And he just doesn't concern himself much with that.

The dumbest thing they could do is keep him around next year after trading for Williams.

This scheme will not work without a complete overhaul. It's the wrong scheme.

Your players aren't suited for it. You don't have any above average pass rushers outside of Ezeiruaku, which makes it difficult on the banged up secondary who can't cover in the first place.

With all the injuries there, any decent coordinator would draw up blitzes and mix up the coverage.

Yet tweedle dum just keeps running the same scheme rushing 4 guys who can't rush the passer and putting pressure on a secondary that cannot cover, especially in zone.

Do the deed, Jerry.

Or you're a stubborn, old fool.

The time was 6 weeks ago.
This dude got booted out of Chicago because he was a bad HC, and for some insane reason he ended up as the new DC??? C’mon man, if he was that great of a defensive mind the Bears never saw that side of him. It’s very obvious that he’s lost the defensive side in the locker room and for some insane reason he’s being kept around for what reason??????? Time has come to cut this dead fish loose!

Oh, I agree..if I'm the HC I fire him for the players and coach defense myself. It can only get better or stay the same.

I agree that he has lost the locker room.

It does seem like there’s a long pattern of getting a d coordinator who’s scheme doesn’t fit our players.

But maybe I’m exaggerating.

Really?
2024 - Dallas 30th in yards allowed per game.
Zim did great, right? Nope.

2023 - Dallas 5th in yards allowed per game.
Great! And what did he Quinn do in 2022? 12th.

2021? 19th.

One good year under Quinn, sure that's better, but what do you play for? To do better?

No you play to win championships.

We don't need "better". We need a LOT better..

You'd figure he,d be gone by now. But Jerry is showering himself with fool's Gold, thinking Eberjoke is gonna change his ways.

We saw last night a 2-6 raiders team hold broncos to ten points.

The issue is, Jerry hires dinosaurs at the position and most of them aren't able to change their philosophy to the strengths of the team. Instead they spend time and money (minimally) to get players that fit their system vs being flexible with the talent that's on the team.

Yep, he was my choice. Former head coaches don't make good assistants. They can't let go of the ability to do things his way and not follow orders.
What orders is Head Coach Cupcake giving? Or do you mean orders from Jerry?

5 year deal, he's going no where

You did this weird thing were you reversed time and made it seem like DQs defense was getting worse when the opposite was true. That's different.

Spags former hc
Dennis Allen former hc
Saleh former hc
Joseph former hc
Fangio former hc

There are more former hc siceeding than failing. What is your evidence to the contrary? And please provide names and not emotions

Hope you're joking....do you really think that Jerry is coaching this team? He may tell them to do certain things, but the actual gameplay and play calling? Cmon, I know many joke about that, but if anyone actually believes it.....lol. on the other hand, I can see how some around here, actual believe that.

I'm talking in general....I'm not a geek like that, to go and look up stuff. I know what I see....some coaches can swallow their pride and admit to themselves that they weren't ready, others can't let it go....plus, it helps when you have the talent, like some that you researched...after all, you're still the guru....I'm just an old HS coach. By the way, I put a pic of me and you on my avatar. Lol

I got emotions. Not shocked. Moving along........

Seriously, emotions run high in this sport, you should see a mismanaged coaching office after a loss...or better yet an oc and DC session during game planning. I used to have my staffs, scout each other...very quick and general stuff....not to take time away from our opponents. They would draw something on the board and the DC would say, if you do that, I'll do this...the the oc would say, well. If you do that, we'll do this....the DC would then say, OK, but then I'll do this etc, etc, etc. Lol...it was emotional and funny at the same time! Lol

I highly doubt it happens during the season and it's at least somewhat likely he is not fired in the off-season.
Jerry has verbally indicated that it's his plan to retain him. Let's wait and see if he was serious or not. This business of hiring a new DC every year doesn't allow the best chances for improvement. I think you're right. Jerry professes to be a fan of consistency. We'll see if he means it. ;)

It is almost a lock that he isn't going to be fired and he would have to fail badly in his 2nd year to be fired.

That's cool and all but isn't Al Harris still a positional coach in some ways or you see the DC over there from what I know, no..
I think I'd rather have a guy like Brian Flores who was fired and probably has a chip on his shoulder because it wasn't his fault that what went on over there in Miami as you can see...
IMO Harris still needs time to develop into a DC. Chatter was he may not have manged Diggs well, and now we are dealing with it. It's hard to learn your own style and develop how you inspire, engage and ignite players.

Being a DC you have to be more objective and make hard decisions.

As for my pre-season choice I also would have preferred Brian Flores. Smart coach. Hard-nosed coach. A good fit for the challenges the team had this upcoming season.
