No, he doesn’t.
It’d be nice if our fans had a little better understanding of what’s actually been going on all this time though.
We haven’t been 8-8 in a while. And when we were, it was with teams with sub-.500 talent.
With all due respect, I'd like to ask you a question or two.
I understand the Jets game was a walking wounded game for Dallas. I understand they kept two men back to add to the blocking so Darnold could have all day. I do not fault the team nor Garrett for this loss. Although one might make a case he did nothing to change the way the team attacked on either side of the ball.
Over the years Garrett has fielded several teams that had immense talent and can't seem to get past enough play-off games to be in the NFC Championship game.
But, the commentary by a fan here that went to the game and stated he focused on Garrett, and claimed he did not talk to his assistant coaches throughout the game. And that was the Green bay game, I believe
So, would you agree, or disagree, taking the comment by this fan at face value? Garrett's brand of leadership in supervising his coordinators is seriously lacking? And that being disengaged shows a weakness in his brand of coaching?
Adjustments needed to be made, and it appeared in both the Saints and Green Bay games the team kept smashing it's head against a brick wall with no real substantial change or counter being made.
Last question. After seeing Garrett over these years, and the lack of any type of breakthrough in play-off situations, if you were the man who made the final decision and you had a choice between the following, which man would you choose to lead this team next season, and why?
Urban Meyer
Lincoln Riley
Jason Garrett
I'm not trying to paint you in a corner. If you feel this is a set-up, then refuse to answer. No hard feelings.
My position is this.
Garrett has had a few teams that should have gotten to the NFC Championship game but failed. I see the posts about, "It's the defense." If that is the reason, and they repeat the feat of failing over, why hasn't Garrett gone to Jerry and fired the DC and brought in a better coach? If Marinelli cannot get this team to succeed as they bring in player after player, is it not incumbent on the head coach to demand a change? Jerry seems to give him a pass on these failures, so that may indicate Jerry would appease him with a new DC.
If it is the players only, then Garrett should stand up and be involved in the process to the point he can influence who they pick to a greater degree. If it is the failure of the coaches, other than Garrett falking on his sword and resigning, he should be active in getting better minds and coaching to succeed.
Especially if the fan was correct and Garrett is an isolated individual on the sidelines.
Either way, that is a failure worth noting. Frankly I think he has risen to his best, and will never come to the surface of winning. That is an opinion based comment.
I would take Urban Meyer first and Lincoln Riley second. But in no case other than a miracle season this year, with serious coaching choices by this head coach to win critical games, would I ever allow Garrett to walk back into The Star after this season is over. That also is an opinion made of emotions and perhaps not based on facts.
