 I beg to differ. It has it's issues too.
I think they all do. Firefox is a resource hog and I've had several issues with it, including the fact that on my computer at home it just suddenly decided it didn't want to spell check anymore. At work, it crashes pretty regularly on me.

So I'm not as high on Firefox as I used to be. They are unmatched in terms of addons though, so I still use it.

Google chrome has been mostly good for me, even though every now and then it'll lock up on a page.

Hey Bob, hows that dot matrix printer still holding up?

Would you believe that the hotel I work at still uses an Okidata dot matrix printer as the system printer (the one that prints out messages from the network)??

We do, however, have an HP Laserjet for printing folios and such...

We still have one server that we do some backups on...the backups save to a tape cartridge.:laugh2: But it is just the server for the unix programs and we don't use them as much so it is no big deal.

When is the last time you *tested* those cartridges?

Not this company, but the company I was at before it. They were backing up these Tru64 Unix servers running Sybase on to tapes. Note, this was their primary financial database. As they were showing me around the server room and showing me the backup tapes, I ask. When is the last time you tested the backups? The guy responded that he has never done it. I look at the tapes and they are 4GB tapes, so I ask how large is the database? 85GB. I stare at him blankly. He says, "What?" I ask him who stays around and changes the tapes during the backup? He responds, "What do you mean?" :banghead:

A couple of months ago.

After a few months we clean out a great deal of the files on that server.

We get work that goes on that server once a month during the spring/summer months.

Now that fall and winter are rolling around we will get a job that comes in every week or two until spring so we check it out a little more.

Otherwise that server and program just sits there now.

But a couple of months ago we got a storm that came through and we did a backup...the power went out and we restored from the backup tape.

Have to remember this is unix programs so there are no graphics or anything and we remove some of the old files on occasion so we are good to go.

The work is so small (except for one large job we did during the summer) that the work we do get in, we normally FTP it to the state and it only takes a minute or so to FTP over a PHONE LINE...so that should tell you it is not much in space. Yes the state only let's us FTP on a PHONE LINE. I guess they still have some contract for that ISP for some of those servers and refuse to change it even though they have T1s and such for most of their other stuff. Makes no sense to me but that is gov and WV. Heck we had to set up a message board for their DHHR workers so I can answer questions they might have (even though I do that on the phone or through email). Well we have not had anyone join or post on that board for over two years.

Each year the hosting site sends a bill to reup and I try and convince the lady at the state that it is just wasted money because nobody uses it (to the point that it would even take money out of my companies hands of keeping an eye on it) but they still want to keep it up. The only thing I get from that message board is daily spam emails from Bots. I went so far as to automatically deny any new memberships because it was just spam bots.

But they want to keep wasting money on it....Crazy stuff.
