Not this company, but the company I was at before it. They were backing up these Tru64 Unix servers running Sybase on to tapes. Note, this was their primary financial database. As they were showing me around the server room and showing me the backup tapes, I ask. When is the last time you tested the backups? The guy responded that he has never done it. I look at the tapes and they are 4GB tapes, so I ask how large is the database? 85GB. I stare at him blankly. He says, "What?" I ask him who stays around and changes the tapes during the backup? He responds, "What do you mean?"
