It's also a stocking stuffer! :laugh2:

On a side note.

During the days when most of the miners lived in the coal camps/towns and pretty much everything was run by the coal company, plus being paid in script that was only good at the coal companies stores....The coal companies would tell the miners that the coal dust was good for them. They went so far in some cases and would tell the kids that they should eat a small amount once a week because it was good for them.

Crazy stuff.

Ok back to the geek stuff...

At one time we had this power backup unit. It was setup to give a few seconds or minutes so we could do backups in case the power went out.

I don't think it ever really worked because when the power would go out all the servers would.

This thing as not that big but it was heavy as hades.

The worst part of it was that on rare occasions it would start making this grinding finger nails on the chalkboard type of squealing noise for a day or so and then quit.

When it would start, sometimes I would go in and kick the darn thing and it would quit for a bit only to start up an hour or so later.

It was so annoying.

Finally we got rid of the stupid thing.

I was not changing crapola with that thing. The thing did not work to begin with.

Besides...I have changed enough fans, motherboards, chips, ethernet cards and everything else in PCs that I was not going to mess with that thing.:laugh1:

I am always the one that gets stuck doing the swapping, changing and the guy who orders the stuff goes cheap and buys barebone kits so I wind up having to put all the computers together from scratch as well.

Welcome to 1990 :D

Tell me about it... and if that SOB jams on me when I'm running the close of day report (which can only be replicated with great difficulty) one more time, I'm drop-kicking it out the window...

So what if they dock my paycheck 30 bucks to replace it??

We still have one server that we do some backups on...the backups save to a tape cartridge.:laugh2: But it is just the server for the unix programs and we don't use them as much so it is no big deal.

Our server has a tape backup too... the weird thing about that is the server is only 2 years old...
