Firing everyone is a popular idea until - then what?

Bob, I'm beginning to think why bother. With Jerry Jones and son at the helm, nothing will be able to right this ship!

It hurts to say this, but 30 years have finally convinced me this is the case.

To look this inept no matter the coaching staff or players, year after year, has to be handshake between two parties. They constantly look to lose rather then win.

Dallas went 1-15 in 1989 and I watched each game and was proud of the effort, due to lack of talent. I don’t know what to say about the last 30 or so years.

Again point the finger first at the owner’s box. That’s where all this mess starts.
In another thread, we brought up this point. That Jerry runs the team like a company instead of an NFL Franchise. To Summarize, The Head Coach is just a lowly supervisor to the Players. The GM position has been relegated to a Board Room, where no longer Jerry is the lone voice, which is why we have drafted a bit better towards the end of the Romo Era. But the problem is There is know team building strategy involved, and that usually is a lone person's vision, be It a GM or Head Coach. The problem with having a board room approach, where everyone gets a vote is, everyone has their own vision of building a team, or maybe don't have a vision.

But when everyone gets a vote on what player to get, you can draft good players, but the vision behind building the team is gone, since many people are involved in casting their vote. So where like one coach who has a vision likes to get people who are leaders, will make sure to interview people based on that and might choose leadership in some cases over raw talent. And there other qualities that would make him draft certain types of players. And that person might like certain types of running backs and to fit a scheme and so forth and so forth. In a board room that votes on who to draft, There is no one vision, and ultimately you just draft talented people randomly without a though of what kind of team you are trying to build.

I think that is part of the reason that drafting has gotten better, but ultimately we have no winning formula. You can't run an NFL team like some sort of corporate office.

i have no hope for the Cowboys to ever win another Super Bowl as long as Jerry is alive and I doubt having Stephen run things would be any different.

I’m to the point where being competitive is the goal.

This team will never rebuild.

Ever.

When Dak retires and we draft another QB, Jerry will still approach every decision as if we are on the edge of a championship.

Who would Jerry be able to hire ? Ben Johnson and Sean Payton are taken . Mcavey won’t be available as his boss who owns the rams is a much bigger billionaire and winner than Jerry.
We would end up with someone worse.

NFL rules prohibit a team from contacting, interviewing or hiring any coach who is on an NFL staff during the season

All you will get is a guy who is currently out of the league.

Amidst the calls for Brian Schottenheimer and Chris Parker to be fired, there are two sizeable problems standing in the way. One is a stubborn cheapskate soon to be 84 year old owner/GM/micro manager, and the other is….then what?

Jerry won’t fire Schotty with two and half years left on his contract. Why? Because he’s cheap. Even when he fired Wade Phillips in 2010, Jerry only had to pay him for a year and some change. He famously wouldn’t fire Big Mac after that embarrassing playoff loss in Jan 2024 because he had one year left and JJ didn’t want to pay him.

CP’s contract terms were not disclosed but he’s on at least a two year deal. I contend JJ may be willing to eat that. But…then hire the 6th DC in 6 seasons?

So there’s that.

Secondly, then what? Who’s Jerry going to hire in October that makes this Titanic of Jerry’s own design any better? Lipstick on a pig? New paint job of the Titanic? This is a very young and inexperienced coaching staff and who on that staff can make this mess any better?

This team is clearly teetering on looking completely lost…again.

And the person most to blame is the guy that obviously still thinks 500 guys could coach this team. He continues to hire HCs like Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Jason Garrett and now Brian Schottenheimer who were neither ready for the job nor in high demand by other teams. No surprise we are where we are.

Whatever frustration, anger and finger pointing fans want to do, make sure it starts in the owner’s box. Because America’s team is being run by the oldest GM in sports history, supported by his unqualified children. And we are supposed to think he knows what he’s doing outside of business and marketing when we have decades of team building failure receipts.

Again point the finger first at the owner’s box. That’s where all this mess starts.
There really is no point to fire anybody now 5 games into the season. This isn't baseball where that seems to work all the time. That doesn't work in football - has it ever? This is our team, coaches, etc - just have to ride it out now. If Eberfluss lasted the whole season, why wouldn't Parker?
It all runs down from the Owners Box.
He decides to pay 2 WR big $ to have an Offense ready to win a Super Bowl, but then hires a rookie HC and DC, and keeps a Special Teams coach who took something that was a positive for us and made that into a negative now. Makes no sense.
There are how many 1st round OL, and yet the line is still an issue. He ignores the DL completely for forever, then panics and makes desperation moves to make up for that later - to have the worst Defense in the league.
He got stupid lucky drafting a LB, who turned in to the best QB sack machine going. I remember so many upset at that time when he drafted Parsons. Unfortunately that masked a lot. And we have seen that the last 2 seasons.
LOL, only Jerry

Jerry has been around football his entire life and even played at Arkansas so I cannot believe he's this inept. He's also had plenty of time to learn and he repeats the same mistakes over and over.

I don't get it but my patience has run out. If we don't hire a real head coach after this season I will not watch another game until we do. They aren't good for my health and I certainly don't enjoy watching them, win or lose.
1960s SEC football is a different planet than 2026 NFL.

He gets more and more pathetic with each day. Could have gone out a hero. Ego said no.

Bobhaze is hitting the nail on the head.....and it's so damn depressing. :(

Then you introduce your new head coach.

If we’re bringing back former legends, might as well bring back that guy in the cowboys hat to play defensive tackle.

He’s got ten years on Jimmy.

Fire everyone then sell the team, move it to Mexico City

If each and every one of us wants to express our unhappiness with the Cowboys, don't watch the next game. Contact every fan we know, friends and neighbors and implore them to stop watching. Otherwise, it's business as usual with this family.

No point to firing at this point of the season. You can't expect a new DC to change things without camp or anything.

I would like to see us bring in a defensive consultant.

Someone with a different perspective than the Fangio one. Not sure who else is out there but Del Rio is available and Jerry always wants to lean into guys he knows.

I don't think Parker is a disaster, but I think he needs a more senior person to bounce ideas off. He is the most experienced coach on the defensive side. Schotty is never going to be of use to the defense.

It would be unpopular but I think Wade Phillips is likely getting calls from Jerry about this.

I’d fire Parker. I mean how could the defense get any worse? He’s obviously in way over his head.
..exactly my thoughts. Game five was enough for admitting, he's not the dude.

I'll be first to say, Im no football Guru, but no way in hell is this going in right direction.

Another wasted year for Dak, CD, Pickens ..etc.

Rock, I'll check back in next month, I need a break from all this.

Be good, be safe.
