Strickly for fun not best player available.. 1st= CB one that turns around when the ball is in the air. Newman joins the WWE. 2nd= NT Big active space eater would make the defense nasty. Move Ratliff to DE. 3rd = Center Costa needs to hit the weightroom.. 4th= Guard Kosier is getting old and Holland is always a cheese burger away from getting cut.. Who knows what we got with Nagy and Arkin.

I agree with a corner with our 1st though center may be our most pressing need.

Part of our need situation will depend on what we do with Spencer and FA. But since Spencer is a FA I will list the needs as though he is not a Cowboy again:

1. OLB
2. Center
3. CB
4. OG
5. DE with pass rush ability (although a healthy Spencer can give this to us so its listing as a need depends on how he plays the rest of the year)

I think the first round selection will come from one of these positions.

Needs right now would be:

-A complete 3-4 DE who can stop the run and rush the passer (Ratliff will not be moved to DE).
-A center is a possibility depending upon how Costa finishes the season.
-A CB
-A Safety depending upon what happens with the current two starters.
-An OLB depending what happens with Spencer.
-A QB if the feeling in the organization is that McGee isn't a long-term answer.

First of all you should take the BPA. If he fits a position of need and all the players in his tier are roughly equal then you go with the greatest need. If it's a playmaker or a clearly superior player at your pick then you go with him regardless of position.

Secondly Newman is a very good CB contrary to some of the vociferous posters here. You add a CB to the stable and let the competition sort itself out.

Third, while I want a huge NT for use at appropriate times, you aren't replacing Rat at NT merely supplementing him with a different kind of player for different needs. And for the umpteenth time Rat is not moving to DE. Perhaps that player is already here although I have my doubts.

I agree we need to address the center position with more competition and add interior linemen. You can find these guys in lower rounds but you have to sieve through much more dirt to find gems. I'm all over drafting a center or guard in the upper rounds.

While I agree you must try and fill holes in every draft you must also balance that with the long term outlook of the team. There is a draft every year and the team outlasts its owners and fans. So you're in it for the long haul.

Is that like Parcells saying Roy Williams 31, was "a biscuit shy of a LB'er". :lmao2:

That about it, really a longer list of needs than some thought we had, but I agree with all of them. I believe we just have to get at least one mid-level FA to fill one of those needs cause there is noway we can satisfy them all with just the draft alone.

The Spencer situation will just be huge, then the next one is TNew and his salary. Either position could be our first rounder, with a center, safety, and DE later.

I really want a stud center that can anchor this line for the next decade. Another top their corner would be next on my list. I would also like a young safety that can cover and has the speed to stay with a wide out like Brandon Marshall...

We need a center regardless of how Costa finishes the season. Unless he can finish it in another body with talent.

We need a NT. Whether we will or won't move Ratliff. Until we get one of those, our defense will never be an elite 3-4.

I'd like two Gs added to the mix. We can't rely on either Arkin or Nagy to be legit. We need more options.

A CB if Newman isn't here next year. Otherwise we don't need one.

A DE capable of collapsing the pocket and an OLB who can make teams pay for doubling Ware all game.

A free safety with range would be nice too. Plenty of needs with this team.

One freakishly good DE

One freakiskly good CB

We can go a longggggggggggggggggggggggg way

Yeah, free agency will be huge. Not so much to sign pro-bowler types, but to sign guys that guy fill a gap for a season or two. Much like the two safeties that were signed for this season.

With Nagy and Arkin on the roster, I can't see a guard being drafted in the first four rounds.

All depends how much the staff likes those two.

If David DeCastro is available at our pick in round 1, you take him and worry about what to do with Nagy and Arkin later.

If he's not there, then I think we look at the best center or corner available in the first round.

Hard to identify which are biggest need cause we got so many. Most probably list C, OG (Holland & Kosier too old), CB, S, DE & OLB along with a really good blocking FB. It possible some of our younger players could step it up but ..... Depending which FAs are available in 2012 & their cost, Cowboys must sign 2-4. Kitna also plans retire so backup necessary; not sure McGee is that guy.

Players drafted in first 2-3 rounds usually can make a difference in rookie year; Murray & Witten are prime 3rd round examples but not sure drafting injuried players in 2nd round (even if they had first round grades) is a good option--although Sean Lee is probably MVP on defense after Ware/maybe Ratliff. Hope Carter turns out just as good as Lee but it wouldn't happen this year. BTW: If Brooking was instrumental in Lee's development, hope he sticks around as asst ILB coach.

CB or C/OG in first round; DE or S in 2nd round; whichever earlier needs not met in first 2 rounds, we pick in 3rd round along with either OLB, FB, etc. I'm a firm believer in BPA at needed position so long as he warrants drafting with our pick. What I don't want drafting is because guy's got great potential but didn't show it in college i.e. M. Bennett, etc. In other words no probjects in the early rounds.

BTW: Anybody got a website where I can start checking out various mock drafts? Thanks.

We need another top pass rusher; either OLB or DE. Hatcher almost qualifies but he seems to get injured a lot. Spencer is fine outside of pass rush. Key is getting another guy that the O has to account for; right now only Ware worries them.

We clearly need a better center; Costa just is too limited. But you can get real good centers in rds 2 or 3. If I was Jerruh and company I would see what was the BPA in three areas in the first RD: CB, OLB, DE.

As regards the other areas, frankly I would look at seeing how much it would cost to keep Sensi and Elam; and also look at the FA market for a top blocking FB. We really screwed up by not getting Hysocki. If there are none in FA then look at using a draft pick on the best blocking FB available. I would also look at getting another guard say rd 3 or 4. Best Center in rd 2 or 3.

we do not need. running back, tackle or wide receiver. I would add ILB if I knew for sure how Carter was going to turn out. all other positions are fair game.
