I had forgotten how much I loved the British glam hard rock band, Sweet. Ballroom Blitz, Fox on the Run, Turn it Down, Lady Starlight -- this band came out with excellent songs and were exciting to watch. They also had the guts to cover The Who's My Generation. The Sweet version was outstanding. When I was 12 years old, I had been listening mainly to Top 40 and country when I heard Ballroom Blitz. I was immediately hooked. I checked out a bunch of Sweet's YouTube vids this weekend. Made me miss them. Here they are.

After Metallica lost their Grammy to Jethro Tull, I realized how much the defining lines of music can really criss cross. It's only gotten worse since that horrible day.

Well I was just referring to that song is considered as hard rock (1974)? That's just my opinion. Led Zeppelin I would say (1970s). I guess I am biased by Morrison's voice as being hard (the delivery). Like a song Break On Thru.

Not gonna lie, My first phase of the British evasion was Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd...... While Black Sabbath (We sold Our Soul For Rock And Roll) was the first, then my second album was from the states from Aerosmith (Rock)....... Funny thing is my fourth album was Twisted Sister (Stay Hungry) and my third album was Lynyrd Skynynd's (One More For The Road). It was my fifth and sixth albums that got me into Pink Floyd.....

Glad I'm not the only one. I was in a relationship with someone that worshipped Pink Floyd. I had to endure The Wall to be convinced of their "genius". Sounded like a bunch of stoned musicians from my heathen point of view.

Hard rock in general is hard to pin down. It's all in who is defining the genre.

I started listening to The Cult when the "Electric' album came out in 1987 (was senior in HS). To this day, The Cult and Jane's Addiction are still at the top for me (along with The Doors).

Check this out...

Pink Floyd is far from hard rock..... I was just mentioning my English influence..... While I love Pink Floyd, it was more to do with how I love a guitar and how it can sing to you.... Much like I love blues..... Most likely explains my love for Lynyrd Skynyrd as well......

If I was to comment on my first hard rock band it would be Black Sabbath.... Sorry to add my first few album listings in order and change the genres from hard rock.... My bad.....

I didn't mean anything derogatory to Pink Floyd fans, I just don't get them. I enjoy stuff no one I know gets. I just felt like the lone ranger with Pink Floyd because everyone I know loves them.

Floyd never got into them. I do remember the song Brick In The Wall was played by my bus driver (when I was young) as he picked us up.

Led Zepplin, the band erroneously labeled heavy metal by some, that belongs to Black Sabbath.

To this day, I haven't heard a band with the range of Zep and their ability to make a song their own was unmatched.

Hard Rock is such a subject term dependent on what you consider Pop or Light or Soft Rock. But from the pure Hard Rock sound, Van Halen was right in the sweet spot for me.

Listen to Jane's Addiction (early years when they were raw and intense).

There is no band to compare them to in my opinion.
