I totally got suckered by Potter. Used to make fun of my girlfriend for reading the books, then I picked one up and mowed through the whole series. Won't lie, I'm excited to see the last movies.

Same here. I never really gave it a chance, but once I got started I couldn't stop. Reading the series through for the second time.

I read the books when I knew my kids were going to be dying to go to the movies. I wanted to know what to expect.

It has been a great series.

Someone asked about the Twilight Series earlier. My oldest daughter read the books but my kids don't like the series so I have never felt the need to see them.

I have been trying like crazy to get my kids to read The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy which I think are the ultimate fantasy stories.

It is not my favorite genre, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the stories. I like the Harry Potter series. I think it is really outstanding.

I must admit. I thoroughly enjoyed the Hobbit and LOTR series. I don't know, when I read them, it didn't seem to get too deep into fantasy. JMO.

It is the beginning of the end for the movies. As this will be be the first of two parts.

I meant that they didn't throw the fantasy in your face. Everything just flowed together.

The best fantasy books only use the fantasy setting as a backdrop. The George RR Martin series, 'A Song of Ice and Fire', is like that. LOTR is like that. I haven't read the Harry Potter series, but I'd imagine it's like that too considering the success it's had.

It is ......

I've entertained the idea of getting my oldest son the first book so we could read it together. He recently turned six, but he can read freakishly well for his age so I thought I would step up the level of difficulty. Can't say that I've ever picked up a book or watched a movie, but it seems to have a lot of fans.

This makes no sense whatsoever, even coming from you.

Do it, you'll both enjoy it.
