franchise him for the next two years and then see how Romo is holding up after those 2 years, if Romo is done, they won't have anyone to throw to Dez

Right? A young qb wouldn't benefit from throwing to a 28 year old Dez.... Oh wait. That's not true.

We don't have much data to go on, but we do have some.

Dez played one game in '14 with a young understudy. How did that work out? Was Dez a security blanket for such a QB? Here are the numbers when Brandon Wheeden tried to team with Dez:

Targeted 10 times
2 receptions
15 yards

Wow that's not good.

And as I recall (vaguely) Dez wasn't the most patient and supportive of guys with a young mediocre quarterback.

A) Small sample size.

B) Weeden is not young.

C) Weeden isn't being groomed as a qb of the future (a guy presumably with talent)

D) Would Weeden have performed better without Dez?

Case in point? Look at AJ Dalton's splits with and without A.J. Green.

I already volunteered that we don't have much data to drive conclusions and I'm not going to try to conclude a lot from one game. But I suggest it's easy to see how Dez *could easily* be a challenging personality for a young rookie quarterback. Impatient, Demanding, etc.

I tend to agree with a previous poster who suggested we might best be cautious with a longterm contract for DB w/Romo near the end.

Yup. If he's willing to scream at Romo I can't imagine what a young QB would go through.

Didn't says that, I'm suggesting having no franchise QB might change how one might allocate resources and I like having flexibility

Having said that, this would require close to 30 million in guaranteed salary so I'd prefer the team work out a long term deal vs risking Dez not responding to being franchised well

are you talking about yesterday's segment when they basically said that dez deserved as much money, if not more than CJ?

that was pretty ridiculous, I had to turn it off halfway through. The CJ contract and the fitzgerald contract were mistakes. I think dez deserves to paid like an elite, somewhere in the 12-13 APY range, with ~30 million guaranteed, but CJ money is bordering on elite qb money and that's just mindboggling to me. (15 APY, 50 million guaranteed)

CJ is unstoppable though.,
