First Time DCs struggling across the league

Jones and Leonhard were both candidates that were mentioned at the Zone in the offseason. It looks like it’s a rough jump.

Gannon, of course, is a former HC.

There is a big difference in Daronte Jones at 28th and Parker at 32nd. If this defense was just at that level we likely win versus Baltimore and the Giants/Buccaneers games would be toss ups. I fully understand that there is going to be a ramp up period but in my opinion, there is no excuse to ever be as bad as Dallas and Buffalo have been defensively.

Gannons nothing special either. Imagine being a Rams fan? They got 2 great cbs and Donald this year and their D is porous. Is Garret really gonna make them elite. We'll see
BUT they have a history of continually improving as the year goes along. I think they will be a much different team defensively by the time we get to December (barring key injuries).

I would be more concerned with them getting Puka some help. If they put a reliable #2 out there, they'd be near unstoppable. (Adams still has value but it's mostly in the red zone. He just doesn't have much separation at this point in his career)

Yardage is an outdated measurement

Commanders are no better where it counts

TeamPoints Per GameRank Points Per DriveRank
Cowboys28.030th2.7230th
Comm30.531st2.6329th

Did Jethro really try and get a good veteran Coordinator; or did all the good ones available tell him to pound sand?

With all these up and coming coaches struggling, makes me think they have all inherited poor personnel. Which explains why they got the job in the first place.
They can't all be bad!

I’m looking at defensive EPA which was in the first post. Yardage and total points against are not relevant. Those vary based on how fast the game is being played.

Green Bay's Gannon is doing okay and I'm sure he can't wait for the return of Parsons.

They are #1 in the league in INTs, #4 in takeaways overall.

Yet, they are ranked much lower in points allowed (14th) compared to overall yardage (8th).

It looks like their offense and/or special teams is putting them in tough situations.

Oh so this is a trend with you.

Point to others failing so it makes the cowboys failing look better lol.

It takes time for players to get comfortable with a brand new scheme. Add in CP inhierted a historical bad defense, improvement isn't going to happen overnight. Yes, they brought in new players, but they are also seeing which players fit, which don't.

Moral of the story is don't hire first time dc's
I could see a situation if it was someone they can move up from an established defense with established scheme and established players, say the previous DC retired, but yeah. For the most part I agree.

It’s so funny and enlightening that none of the usual suspects who like bash Parker in clusters in other posts are conveniently absent in a post like this.

Hmmm,,,,
Because the "whataboutism" fallacy is patently stupid, is never an excuse for your own failure, and further reinforces a losing mind set.

And you act smug while scoring an own goal. Now that is entertaining.

I believe Gannon was a DC for the Eagles before so not his first time as DC.

Gannon is in Green Bay.
Chris Shula is Rams. He touted as one of the top head coach candidates for next season. Including a person or 2 here. They're currently ranked 3rd . It's the offense that hasn't been living up to expectations.

Haven't you all noticed we've had a long list of DCs?......................player evaluation & scouting failures are tied to all that dismay too. And it doesn't have anything to do with offense paychecks. Look at the draft history. Asking Bobby Flay to make a 5-star meal with Spam.
