First time flyer advice

My 1st flight ever was to Miami for the 1st SB between Dallas and Pitt. Talk about a great flight as one of the female passengers started doing a strip tease on the flight. When we landed in Miami the same woman got on the luggage claim area and offered herself to the highest bidder. :laugh2:

HeavyG, reading this may seem really silly, but I will tell you something that I told my niece the first time she flew, and she said it really put her at ease when she experienced it. You will most likely experience turbulence during your flight, and if you look out your window, and you see the planes wing bouncing up and down like it's going to break off, relax! It's designed to do that.

She flew from DFW to Memphis, TN., and she said that was one thing that would have really freaked her out had I not told her about the wing. As others have said, on takeoff when the plane begins rotation (where the nose of the plane lifts up in the air), there will be a moment that feels like the floor falls out from under you, and the plane will quickly leave the ground. That may mess with you the first time you takeoff, but it's kinda fun. :laugh2:

Have a great flight, and enjoy the view.

Well it looks like the entire family (5 of us) will be flying out to Calif in March. This will be the first time for all of us. Any suggestions on what to expect? Both pre-flight and during.

Thanks in advance

Try not to get too close to the sun.

It's boring. That's about all I have to add.

Back when I took my first flight I was kind of excited. Then I realized oh hey, I'm just going to be sitting in 1 spot for several hours unable to get up. They will play some HORRIBLE movie or TV show that I do not want to watch, can't hear, and will only watch because it is the ONLY place that has anything for my eyes to focus on.

Flying is terribly unexciting and boring. We didn't even hit turbulence or anything. Sadface.

Your questions will all be replaced by "how long till we land" once you hit cruising height.

You know what's funny? I purposely take a window seat near the wing so I can see the flap thing. For some reason, seeing the flap move on take off and landing comforts me.

Lots of good advice in this thread for the novice flyer.

One thing for your wife to know is that her purse does not count as a carry-on bag. So if she has one of those humongous purses that women sometimes carry, she can stuff a whole lot more in it and it still not be considered a carry-on.

If you're trying to carry on lotions and whatnot, I think there's a 10 oz requirement for bottles with liquids. I usually take every liquid item out of my purse and put it in the suitcase I check in.

To reiterate what someone else said. In-flight entertainment is a must unless you plan on sleeping through it.

It will be a heavenly experience up above the clouds.
If you have a fear of flying (like I do) I prefer the window seat.
Start taking Benadryl 2 days before flight for cabin pressure/ear problems.
Don't put anything in your luggage that's not replaceable.
Pack light, put travel size liquids in quart size zip locks.
Music and/or a book will make travel time a breeze.

Easy advice and best I can do.

1x Valium

1x Credit Card for Cashless cabin airlines - FOR DRINKS

1x R&B Greatest Hits 200+ title playlist on MP3 player

1x Neck Pillow

Directions:

As door closes - TAKE VALIUM

As plane climbs through 10k feet - Turn on MP3 player and select Playlist (see above)

As drink cart comes near you, order 1x Bloody Mary w/ a hint of tobasco. This is a sipping drink. Please do not slam this drink. Slamming ones drink tells the whole cabin your scared of flying or alcoholism runs in your family.

RELAXXXXXX......nothing else matters right now.....just sit back and enjoy the next 4 hrs of flight. :D

BTW: Don't do this if you are just hopping between cities on 1.5 hr flights. IT'S NOT GOOD TO DO THIS !!!! Find different advice !!!!!

How much did you pay for her?

Nothing's scarier than looking out the window when you're taking off...

Try flying in a 10 seat turbo prop plane where you can look out of the cockpit windows. :D

Been there, done that..in bad turbulence. I white knuckled it the whole flight.

That was the first and last time I took that particular flight. After that, I chose to drive it instead of the short hop flight. Five hours in a car > that terror.

Did that coming out of Lauderdale coming into Bimini in the Bahamas. The best part was the pilot taking us around the island once to show us all the smuggler's planes that misjudged the landing strip. At least a half dozen that the locals hadn't gotten around to salvaging yet.

Turbulence happens. Don't sweat it.

Thats an important one I like to tell people before they fly. Planes can take a hell of a lot of bad weather, stuff that would make most people toss their cookies. Airliners try to minimize movement as much as possible for a smooth ride, but the plane itself can fly through a lot. Turbulence is nothing to be afraid of.

The other thing I like to mention. There's a far greater chance of getting in a fender-bender in your car on the way to the airport than there is anything happening on your flight. Flying is exceptionally safe compared to all other forms of traveling!
