First and foremost I will start with the good.

I truly believe signing Javonte Williams to what they did is a fantastic move. And probably the best move in the NFL thus far.

The trade for Gary (Clowney replacement) is good, and if he can get back to his old ways will be even better.

Love the Thompson signing. Safety wasnt a massive need (compared to LB and edge) but it was a need so I am happy they upgraded there.

Thats about it for the good.

This owner, yet again sucked some fans in with his bust the budget nonsense. And some fell for it, hook line and sinker.

Tell me how, in this FO's mind, LB was not the first priority? Did they watch the film from last season? Or no?

What is the plan? Is it to go into the draft and try and hit on every pick? Because, based on their past 5 years of drafting, I dont think that is the best idea.

How can anyone (at this point) think this defense would hit the field today and not be just as bad as last year? Gary and Thompson are that big of improvements in your minds?

There is more questions than answers at this point, and if they plan on going into the draft as is (which I know isnt possible) then we are looking at another bad season defensively.

I dont want to hear about this being a 2 year plan, I knew that already which is why I wanted to trade Pickens and gain extra blue chip picks.

If this was a 2 year plan, papa Jerry should have kept his mouth shut. I know he cant but hey a guy can dream.

Really curious to see what they do from here on out, but as it stands right now, leaving LB and CB alone is unforgivable. LB was the worst unit on the field last year followed very closely by CB.

And they havent improved either one.

Dont give me the "well they tried" nonsense. Sometimes in FA you need to make offers people cant refuse.

End of my rant, but I am interested to hear the thoughts of the pie in the sky unicorns and rainbows fans who think all is ok.

If we come out of the draft with two stud defenders it will change a lot
This is the same team that drafted Trysten Hill and Mazi Smith.

At what point to people realize, unless its an OL this team really hasnt been that great. Do you know how bad you have to be at drafting to not have 1 guy on your team out of 11 draft picks 5 years ago?

I think Gary is interesting. He is about the same tier as Oweh and Phillips. His best seasons were as a stand up rusher in a 3-4, but at 6'5 and almost 280, he could probably play 5T on passing downs of they wanted him too. They could still use another pass rusher though. It's definitely on the table in the 1st

The strategy needs to change on defense. Smith and Hill were different type of players that failed for the same reason. A few elite traits, but very bad game tape. Taco was different, he had decent traits and tape, but his attitude was awful. Hopefully the instincts over measurables isnt lip service

Love this post, and agree with the limited good. I think you know where we go from here, and it's not down a pretty path. The 2 biggest ??? positions on this team in terms of health/performance have been ignored, and we walk into next season with the same worries about dudes we are relying upon to stay healthy. The confidence factor in "hitting" the draft is bang on how you have laid it out. I am hopeful for Gary, but he is coming from a GB team that a top defensive unit, to this mess. We should lower our expectations for him, based on this

No FA started yesterday.

It doesn't matter what they did so far. The only thing that matters is what they do in the next 6 months.
No. The legal tampering period of FA started at 12 p.m. EST on Monday, and the official signing period was yesterday. There was 1 deal voided. What do you think can/will happen in the next 6 months that hasn't happened already, aside from the Draft and the UDFA period that follows?

So sad to see fans still getting hooked by the drunk and his loser nepo spawn. This offseason has no chance of short term success. Way too many holes on defense and the worst O tackles tandem in the game. Add to the fact these morons traded away their 2/3 this season and a penchant for FA JAG hunting and you are here.

I predicted all of this. Here is another prediction...too many fans downplaying the NFCE. Dallas DOES NOT have 4 wins out of the gate anymore. The Giants are going to slap the Cowboys around and the new owners in Washington will spare nothing to build a winner.

Wake up people.

This is the "I need instant gratification" mindset.

A week of free agency is Monday, today is Thursday.

The team is not taking the field today. The team is SIX months from taking the field. Many thing will happen between now and then that will reshape the team.

Don't be dumb and think everything will be solved in less than a week. This team has multiple holes that need time to be address. Come back week 1 when the 53 is announced and declare then if this team can not compete.

Till then enjoy the next six months.

Instant gratification? Riiiiight. It's been now 3 decades of the same song and dance. This front office has did zero to improve this team since the embarrassing Packers playoff loss. That was over 2 years ago and we are about to roll out another roster with zero chance to win a Super Bowl.

Dumpster diving yet again in free agency but yeah, they just need some time lol. Meanwhile, how many teams constantly lap us every year?

I'll save you the six month wait, This team cannot compete.

People are putting way too much emphasis on the free agency side of busting the budget. I don’t know if they’ll do it or not but a big trade is just as good as a big signing. Let’s see if they pull one off or not. What I do agree with; is the start to the offseason is less than impressive.
