First week of FA - Thoughts

You are down more on CB than I am. But we agree they need to do more especially at LB. But that shouldn't take away from what they have done and by no means should they be finished.
I have zero confidence in our CB room being healthy or effective...going into another year with so many question marks

If the pass rush isn't there it won't matter how good they are anyway. Not against adding a CB but they have to add a pass rusher and linebacker.

I get it. The team has big cap hits with some players already, so they weren't the Pats of last year or Raiders of this year with 100mil of cap space without restructuring everyone.
So, to expect 5+ big signings was a pipedream.

My concern is they are once again heading down that path of giving a 21-23 year old the responsibility of being NFL ready year 1 for the weaknesses. Linebacker(s) seems like they will wait till the draft, probably round 1 to take one.
So, that means we need to hope DeMarvion Mr Glass Overshown can stay healthy and then the 2nd linebacker(rookie) can be like LVE and produce right away. Or hope a 5th round pick in James makes a big step up-hell might need him anyways if Overshown gets injured again.
If not, we will see another good offensive showing be wasted by an obvious weakness that wasn't taken care of in March.

Maybe Dean and Walker just wanted Vegas over Dallas, or maybe the contract terms were simply just better in LV. Whatever it was, just standard quo to hear Dallas was interested but couldn't close the deal.
Really good post.
Agree.

I do not believe they were ever really interested ......... I think this front office wastes a bunch of time pretending to be interested to appease a fed up fan base.

So they can say "hey we tried" while counting all their money.

First and foremost I will start with the good.

I truly believe signing Javonte Williams to what they did is a fantastic move. And probably the best move in the NFL thus far.

The trade for Gary (Clowney replacement) is good, and if he can get back to his old ways will be even better.

Love the Thompson signing. Safety wasnt a massive need (compared to LB and edge) but it was a need so I am happy they upgraded there.

Thats about it for the good.

This owner, yet again sucked some fans in with his bust the budget nonsense. And some fell for it, hook line and sinker.

Tell me how, in this FO's mind, LB was not the first priority? Did they watch the film from last season? Or no?

What is the plan? Is it to go into the draft and try and hit on every pick? Because, based on their past 5 years of drafting, I dont think that is the best idea.

How can anyone (at this point) think this defense would hit the field today and not be just as bad as last year? Gary and Thompson are that big of improvements in your minds?

There is more questions than answers at this point, and if they plan on going into the draft as is (which I know isnt possible) then we are looking at another bad season defensively.

I dont want to hear about this being a 2 year plan, I knew that already which is why I wanted to trade Pickens and gain extra blue chip picks.

If this was a 2 year plan, papa Jerry should have kept his mouth shut. I know he cant but hey a guy can dream.

Really curious to see what they do from here on out, but as it stands right now, leaving LB and CB alone is unforgivable. LB was the worst unit on the field last year followed very closely by CB.

And they havent improved either one.

Dont give me the "well they tried" nonsense. Sometimes in FA you need to make offers people cant refuse.

End of my rant, but I am interested to hear the thoughts of the pie in the sky unicorns and rainbows fans who think all is ok.
I think it was also the last week of FA for the Cowboys.

No FA started yesterday.

It doesn't matter what they did so far. The only thing that matters is what they do in the next 6 months.
That's what I was gonna say. 6 months at the EARLIEST. FA, camp, pre season...whatever.

Show me the changes, if any.... on gameday.

While I agree with most is what you’re saying, it sounds like you just want to pick a fight. :omg::laugh:

I think differently. I don't hold on to the past. That's how you enjoy each season.

The year begins when the league year starts. Then you have the off-season team building with free agency, the draft, OTAs, training camp, and finally the regular season. The season ends with the SB.

You enjoy the year, whether you win the SB or go 0-17, and then you put it away and move FORWARD. Each year is it's own season.

With this mentality you can enjoy each year and not become bitter and miserable year after year of not winning. I learned this early as a fan that your team will lose more than they win.

I became a fam in 1968 when Dallas was a perrinal favorite. Each season that Dallas didn't win tore me apart the whole off season. After time I decide to enjoy each individual year and that was a true blessing. If I hadn't I would be another bitter and miserable fan all the time year after year.

Release the bitterness and you will feel better. Just enjoy the sport as entertainment and fun.
Wise words. "Just see what happens." Maybe they'll be what you expect, or better, or worse. None of us can influence the deals/draft picks they do or don't make so we'll just see what the coaches can cook up. Everyone wants assurances and life just doesn't work that way. One thing I notice about the homer/hater wars is a lot of it is based on fear that the other side will be right and they will be wrong which is why they both lash out pre-emptively and while things go their way and disappear when it doesn't. So it's also easier to enjoy the season when you can just state your peace and move on while not giving a crap what others think.

Instant gratification?

This team hasnt been to a NFCCG since 1996.
Yep, that was a strange comment.
Cowboys fans have been pretty long suffering for 30 years.
If not for this forum, I would be checked out, with a lot less interest.
As it is, I don't plan my life around watching games anymore.
With Jerry in charge this is an unserious franchise.

Two good moves with Gary and Thompson
Locke I think will be good
Durant I am cautiously optimistic
But then we are keeping Steele and Williams
So some good some bad and some to be determined

I don't see why Revel shouldn't be healthy and I didn't see any issues with Durant's health. Bland is the concern coming off his second foot surgery.

Hopefully, what we saw from Revel last year was due to him being slowed by that injury. We need that pick to be a hit.

That would likely be where I'd go with the picks.

How was S not a massive need?

Maybe because we had Hooker and Bell, whom has been praised by the coaching staff. I think it was a massive need, though, because those players are decent pros but neither are top players at the position. Adding Thompson and Locke gives them competition and gives us a better chance at that position to find an effective combination.

I'm good with what we did at safety.

In a very deep safety draft class.

Are we in a very deep LB draft class?
