Fish: Cowboys QB Change Behind Dak Prescott Means Exploring Top 7 Options

I am going to hype up Tommy Mellott from Montana State again, for the 5th time.

Tommy is a raw, 6’0 QB who played at Montana State in a super gimmicky offense that makes him hard to scout.

But he has an elastic arm that can make throws on the run and at weird angles. His pocket presence needs work, but he has it. He’s smart. He threw for 36 TDs and 2 INTs last year. He runs a freaking 4.42 if not faster. He is one of the best running QBs I have ever seen. He has a nose for the end zone and knows when to tuck and run.

2:23. 8:34. 12:00. 14:22. 14:58.

Those are NFL caliber throws. That’s what I’m looking for in a college QB. He can be had in the later rounds of the draft due to his height and the fact he needs refinement.

But I’d love to see what the kid can do in a fast paced, RPO system that features a lot of quick passes over the middle and a strong running game. That is his bread and butter.

Love it!!! He'd be great with us!!!

I watch Big Sky football. (NAU fan) He is really good. Hopefully level of competition isn’t held against him. Skettebo came out of Big Sky and tore up the Big 12. Mellott is worth a draft pick for the team astute enough to do a thorough job of scouting college quarterbacks.

League minimum salary for Rookies in 2025 is $840,000.

They likely want to pay Lance 2M, just like Rush.

Dallas Cowboys will need to explore new options as they identify the next backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott.

There were many games of his where he was clearly the best, and most athletic player on the field. Skills are there.

This is the most overblown story of the off-season.

Dallas will draft a QB, but it won't be early, and it would be a mini miracle if that guy can be THE GUY at any point in the future.

Dallas could bring Trey Lance back but have zero interest in doing so at this point. Why? Because Lance ended up being a 5M cap hit last year. Lance has proven exactly zero and made 34M in the NFL. That's more criminal than Dak's overpay.

Dallas badly needs a starting WR, a slot CB, LB, Safety, 0/1 Tech DT.
They also need to extend or move on from Micah Parsons.

I urge you all to spend your fantasy draft cycles focusing on those positions in this soft QB draft.

Will Howard is a worthy target for Dallas.
He is a R4/5 guy who can be a long-term plus back up very much akin to Cooper Rush.
He is a solid athlete, but his run style is power not speed.
And he has produced with tremendous OL play in front of him thus far.
He lacks pop with the arm but understands ball placement.
He learned the tOSU offense very quickly and is a smart QB.

But he simply won't earn NFL starter grades from scouts.
And it only takes one team to take him early.

I'd rate him behind Ewers long-term based on arm ability. But both have similar non-starter plus back up grades on most draft boards.

Toledo Boy Says,The Media & Draft Experts Non Sayers, Will Howard Is Not Getting a Lot Of Attention/ He's Under The Radar and That's Fine With Me But He's Still My Pick.

So No One Is Really Talking About Will Howard But Why? Very Strange Indeed.

But I Think I Know Why.Keep It Tight/Under The Radar.Get Howard Cheap Later In The Draft Rounds And See a New Young Josh Allan Prototype Who Will Flourish In 2 To 3 Yrs And That's Will Howard..

So,Former Ohio ST/TX QB Quinn Ewers Is a No For Me In The Draft.
And Here's Why:

Hear What Former Ohio State's offensive coordinator Had To Say About Howard..

Chip Kelly, the Buckeyes' offensive coordinator, a while back spoke out about Howard. He offered a very intriguing comparison to an NFL star quarterback.

That quarterback was none other than Buffalo Bills Star Josh Allen

Chip Kelly,Former Ohio State's offensive coordinator,Now With The Raiders As There OC has compared Will Howard to Josh Allen, highlighting Howard's size and dual-threat capabilities, suggesting Howards adds a dimension to a offense similar to the Buffalo Bills star.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

The Comparison:
Kelly has stated that Will Howard is "probably more [of a] Josh Allen because Of His Size/Good Arm Strength. And Uncanny Speed.

Why the Comparison:
Kelly believes Howard's size and dual-threat abilities, make him similar to Allen..

So Let's Talk About Speed [There Lack Of] ?

Some football players might appear slower than expected because they need to prioritize agility, change of direction, which differs from pure sprinting

Kelly's Perspective:
He sees Howard as a player who can use his strength to gain extra yards, similar to Allen's style.

Kelly noted that Howard At Some Point Ran Just Under 20 mph, Not Bad For That Size Of a QB in a group.

Kelly's high regard To Receiving a comparison to Allen is a huge honor and shows how highly Kelly thinks of Howard.

Toledo Boy Says Buckeye Fan For Life "BF4L"

Will Howard Anybody?

Toledo Boy Says,I've Seen All Games Last Season Of Ohio St Will Howard And There Was Something About Howard That I Couldn't Put a Finger On It..The More I Watch Of Howard The More I Saw Of Josh Allen.

We All May Want To Take Notice.

Also From Former Ohio State DC Jimmy Knowles
"He Howard can challenge the defense Said Former Ohio State DC Jimmy Knowles
Now The DC @ Penn St.

When you have somebody who can be a dual threat, that's a really tough thing to defend. Some football players might appear slower than expected because they need to prioritize agility, change of direction, which differs from pure sprinting.

When He runs, It Could Be a 6-yard gain,
When He takes off, it could be a 60-yard gain. He's had some really big runs in his career.
That's just another tool in your toolbox. Will Howard is a Prototype Of Josh Allen that adds a dimension to your offense."

Size Comparison..

Will Howard
Weight: 236 lbs
Height: 6′ 4″

Joshua Allen
Weight: 237 lbs
Height: 6′ 5″

Will Howard a poor man's Josh Allen?

What Scouts Had To Say About Will Howard.
Some scouts and analysts have compared Ohio State
quarterback Will Howard to a young Josh Allen Going Into The 2025 NFL Draft

Some Scouts

End

So [My Take] Look For Chip Kelly & The Raiders To Make a Push For Will Howard In The Draft.

Jerry & Company Are You Listening?

Kyle McCord can pass rings around Will Howard. Most accurate passer I've seen in recent memory. He'll be there in the 2nd round. Maybe even the third. This kid is going to be star.

I just saw a rumor that we may be interested in Patriots backup Joe Milton III. I don't know too much about him other than he was a sixth-round pick last year and got extensive playing time in one regular-season game, completing 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a TD and rushing for a TD against Buffalo. However, it was in the season finale, so the Bills were playing a lot of backups.

New England signed Dobbs in free agency and reportedly have a few teams interested in Milton.

So Joe Milton is now better than Trance?
