I think you may have grass is greener glasses on

Not really.

I know it's hard to fathom that there might be better players out there than what Dallas has.

The one issue here is that Jefferson is likely to get paid more than Church.

It's not hard to fathom, we could use an upgrade in talent at a number of positions, particularly on defense. I'm not as high on Jefferson as some is all. He has improved his pass coverage, I'll grant that, but people act like Church is a bum. He was one of our best defenders last season.

Im fine with the safeties. We didn't give up many big plays.

What we need our DBs who can stop all of the short passes and actually allow us to have a chance at getting to the QB.

Quick throw after quick throw after quick throw is why the Packers just torched us.

It's lying time people. I don't take coaches and execs at face value until June at the earliest. There is a small window during the Summer but come Fall they are back to lying time again.

Good lord.

I don't think he's second-best, but I do think he's in the top five and there's not a great deal of drop-off between him and the others available.

They rank Church 4th.

This list is pretty accurate IMHO tho I wouldn't list part-timer Harmon that high.
Church was good last year as the site notes.
Swearinger would be a no for me. Misses too many tackles and that's the biggest reason no one wants to credit Church.

I'd take Jefferson over Church but the cost will be much higher for Jefferson.

Opposite Jones we need a good tackling player who can diagnose run plays quickly and then play some over the top coverage to allow blitzing.

What's clear is Berry was number 1 with a bullet.

There is a big gap between Berry and the rest of the class. However, even if the league views Church half of what Berry is that is still a boat load at 7 million a year. Church is undervalued by fans, but I can't see signing him for more than 4 to 5 million a year

No big plays but no real turnovers either.

5-7 a year is the right range.
I think Jefferson gets 6-8m.

A deal that might work is 5 years 30m for Church.
8m SB, 1m base 2017 year 1 cap hit of 2.6m.
7m base 2018 --6m will be converted to bonus, year 2 cap hit of 4.25m.
that 16m all guaranteed.
2019 5m
2020 5m
2021 4m

If you want turnovers in the secondary it helps to have pressure on the QB. A decent QB isn't likely to throw a ball into coverage unless under duress

Church is not a playmaker back there. Thinking a better pass rush turns him into a ball hawk back there would be a stretch.

I am of the mind we need better pass rush and secondary players.

Never expect Church to be a ball hawk, usually the SS isn't a ball hawk. Just speaking to turnovers in the passing game in general. As is, if we had defenders who could catch a football we'd have had at least a half dozen more turnovers in 2016.

I remember when people wanted to cut this guy because he didn't run a 4.5.
