I think the decision to put in a claim really hinges on whether we can get a vet that we like in. Murray is a developmental guy. That's fine but I don't see him as a top choice. I want vet backup who is going to provide another layer of support for Dak.

If DAL doesn't claim Murray for the cost of a roster spot they are clearly clueless

We watch guys like Kruger, Paea, Riley, Freeney, Mettenburg, Austin Davis, Mingo all go to other teams and we just say ''we are happy with what we have''

How on earth could we not put in a waiver claim on a former 5th round pick who put together a horrific preseason? A guy who couldn't beat out Tyler Bray is surely the answer.

Talk about clueless. All this drama over a guy who sucks.

There do not appear to be any vets available (unless you like Vick)

Broaddus said today that he fits their offense - Georgia offense similar, strong arm, accurate, leadership ability.

His arm is not that strong. I seem to recall the Gruden QB Camp episode with Murray where Gruden asked him about his inability to throw the ball more than 50 yards in the air. Murray responded by asking how often an NFL QB throws the ball 50 yards in the air through the course of an average game.

Contrast this with a 50 year old Troy Aikman who just threw the ball 50 yards last week when challenged to a throwing contest by Larry Fitzgerald.

Might be a good idea to pick up 2 QB's. A Vet and a developmental guy that has been in the league for a couple of years.. Such as Petty, Murray.. No guarantees Romo is going to be back.

Yet in his highlight video there are at least three passes right around 50 in the air.

To me, Murray makes the least sense. He is very similar to Kellen Moore and really isn't a great fit in our offense. He would likely be better in a West Coast offense, however he didn't do anything in Reid's which may mean he just isn't an NFL QB.

The only thing he has is he probably could run the spread type offense.

Teams haven't cut down to 53 now, have they?

Some have started, but deadline tomorrow at 4EST. But guys I thought might be available -- Geno Smith/Bryce Petty, Brandon Weeden, etc -- looks like will be kept. And we are limited because no vet is going to sign here for 8 weeks, only to get cut or demoted to 3rd string when Romo returns. Our best option is waivers (a guy like Murray) or Vick off the street.

I would be fine with him. Never thought he had the look of a NFL starter while in college, but I could potentially see him turn into a Colt McCoy NFL Backup. A guy who is limited but a guy the team can trust to fill in for a game or two if the starter goes down.

I like this idea. If Romo goes to short term IR, we can carry 3 Qbs.

Is he better than Showers? I haven't seen him play since college but I've seen Showers and I'm not impressed.

The coaches and scouting dept. need to find someone better than Showers to be the backup.
seriously? Jerrod Johnson is better than Showers

Don't waste the waiver...we can get someone to actually play on D with that spot. Whether it's DL or LB an addition to the front 7 should take priority over a mediocre to bad backup QB. If no one claims Murray it's a different story tho...

No vet is going to sign here? Why? Do you really think we won't carry three guys when Romo returns? Do you really think a vet without a job is just sitting there thinking "nah, I've only got a few years left at this, let's NOT make any money for a while and see if a better shot comes around." ?

What's it going to be then, eh?

What is to waste? It is not like you have to select one player and wait for the next round.

Biggest issue I have about Murray from the high light reel is most of those passes were to guys that were wide open, as in if DBs were that far from their guys in the NFL they would be sweeping the floor in Home Depot by the next weekend. That may be why he has not transitioned well to the NFL, the windows are tighter which require better accuracy and better anticipation.
