Just saw a podcast with Mike Fisher speculating the top DC's to replace Mike Nolan with:

1-George Edwards-believes he is the heavy favorite as Jerry with call Zimmer about him.
2-Marvin Lewis-found out there is a Pitt connection with him and MM, both on the staff together in the 90's
3-Vic Fangio-Fisher said he wanted him to interview for the GB DC job in the past.
4-Matt Patrica-he runs a similar hybrid scheme that MM likes
5-Dan Quinn-from the Seattle coaching tree, similar to the Marinelli Defense
6-Wade Phillips-connection with the Jones Family, former HC. 3-4 DC
7-Iowa State Coach
8-Kris Richard
9-Rahiem Morris-interim HC with Atlanta
10-Lovie Smith-runs the Tampa 2, Marinelli was his DC with Chicago

Bonus-Sean Lee

It's absolutely going to be #1.

McCarthy doesn't want to fire any more of his friends and Edwards is the path of least resistance. Jerry will also call Zimmer and Zimmer will recommend him.

If you bring in a guy like Fangio or Wade, they will probably want to bring in their secondary coach, DL coach, or LB coach which means McCarthy will have to fire more of his buddies.

I'm not discounting his experience but let's not bring in Wade Phillips.

He said some things as head coach that would concern me if he were DC.

Not the culture or vibe I would want in Dallas.

My top 3
1) Fangio (won't be available)
2) Patricia
3) Wade

I'm not sure what Quinn, Richard and Smith are doing on the list.

I hope McCarthy gets to choose.

I'm not sure about Matt Patricia either.

His style was cultivated in the shadow of BB

BB has great authority in NE

MM has not shown that in Dallas

Me thinks chemistry issues will result.

Fangio would be nice. Patricia is a name but how much of the Pats success is due to Bill B? How many NE assistants go on to great success elsewhere either as a HC or a coordinator? Not many it would seem to me.

I could live with Edwards because he's in house but you'd also have the same situation you have with Patricia - how much was Zimmer really responsible for the defenses in Minnesota? Edwards ouster was weird too although it looks like Zimmer was playing the nepotism card to give his son the co-DC job.

Wade's defenses fizzle out at year 3.

My top choices in no particular order is

Patricia
Morris
Fangio

Who will it most likely be?

Edwards
Quinn
Lewis (he is not going to get another HC gig and will have to take a coordinator job )

 Iowa State coach. He will be in demand as a HC at a big college program or even the NFL whenever he wants to leave Iowa State
If he means Matt Campbell, He’s an offensive guy.

Why George Edwards? He’s been on staff this year. He clearly hasn’t had enough helpful ideas on how to fix things.

If one coach is bad they’re all bad. This will turn into Richard/Marinelli debate part 2. Saying one didn’t have authority to change things.

No to Rashard, and not high on Patricia if he runs the same scheme as Nolan. This scheme sucks. need that 4-3 base defense coach.
not height on a college coach either.

no to wade also, he runs the 3-4

any of the others I may be ok with as long as it is not the 3-4
