I love to go fishing. Ever since I was a little kid. My father isn't a outdoor sportsman type but my grandfather was. So we went all the time. Great memories. Great stories. I will never forget those days.

My son has been after me to take him for a couple of weeks now. This week we are finally getting warming into the 70's so I told him we could go for a little while one day after school. You would have thought I told him Christmas was this week.

Or on top of the wheelhouse? I've always dreamed of taking one of those long range Pacific trips out of San Diego. They're becoming more common on the GOM, but the price of fuel has pushed up the price of the trips as well.

Biggest saltwater fish could be any number of sharks that were cut loose. Biggest I ever kept was a 85 pound sputhern stingray on 30# class tackle. 2.5 hours plus trying to winch that big girl off the bottom of the Gulf from shore. She gave birth as I was reeling her over the first sandbar. Three little rays swam off to terrorize some angler's ankles and calves either in reality or in the mind alone.

Mighty fine eating. The meat looks like big old McDonald's straws stacked on each other.

No, they had bunks on the boat. Crowded but fun. The room was 6'6" x 6'6" x 6'6". There were 6 bunks in our room. 2 on floor level. 2 more 2 feet above that. 2 more 2 feet above that and 2 feet above that was the ceiling. You have to be able to fit your suitcase in your bunk. I used mine as a pillow.

You might think it was awful, but man I slept like a baby. The rocking of the ocean was hypnotic.

One night I did sleep up on the top deck.

This is the charter boat I was on.

They can sleep 53 people per that add.

We got a big group together to get the good rate we paid.

I used to go deep sea fishing with my gradparents in Florida when I was a kid. They would go every year and catch huge fish.

I haven't fished in a few months. I got bored last time I did.

More often than not, catching fish isn't necessarily the point.

Anyone on here like to fish?

Got any good fishing stories? Whats the biggest fish you have ever caught?

I just got a new reel that im pumped up about. A Abu Garcia Revo S. Anyone know much about them?

I went fishing 3 years ago in Cancun and had a heck of a good time on the day caught 4 Barracudas, a Dorado and my favorite a Blue Marlin. When me and my buddy charted the boat I had little ideal what we were fishing for but I knew based on the gear they were breaking out that it would be a good size fish we were looking for.

When the fish hit the line and I set the hook I was not expecting to see that Blue Marlin coming out of the water dancing on the surface like it did. For the next 45 mins I was in one heck of a fight and quickly learned respect for the strength of that animal. Glad to say we tagged and released him. The Dorado on the other hand was brought to the restaurant at the marina where he was served as dinner.

If you ever get a chance to go to Cancun I highly recommend going to the Marina and charter a boat for the day. If you are willing to haggle with the capt. You can get a good deal. For me and my buddy it cost us $150 each but it was well worth it. Free beer and great fishing.

I love bass fishing, but I don't get to do that up here. Up here, I fish off the shore and catch baby blue snappers. Those damn things have teeth. I only catch the small ones as the bigger ones are in deeper water. The bigger ones require metal leaders cause they bite through the line.

Biggest fish I ever caught was when we were trolling in front of the dam at Lake Whitney. We were catching hybrid striper bass that were over 2 feet long. They were practically jumping in the boat we were pulling them out so fast.

The only time I've ever caught fish that quickly was when I was catching Perch in this small pond by an old apartment I had in southwest Ft. Worth. (Westcreek area) Of course after yanking about 10-12 of those Perch out on 12 straight casts, they got wise to that. :laugh2:

Great great point and right on the :money:
Agreed!
I say about hunting the same thing I say about fishing........If you gauge the success of a trip based solely on fish caught or game killed, then you are going for the wrong reasons.
