"Does this mean the Cowboys and all the Jerry World glitz are actually more disliked than the Patriots? Not necessarily. A good amount of the Cowboys hate is accounted for by deep-seated rivalries with their fellow NFC East teams. Patriots hatred is far more egalitarian.

For example, the fan groups who hate Dallas the most — Philadelphia and Washington — really, really hate them: A staggering 50 percent of fans who ranked either the Eagles or Commanders among their top three teams also ranked the Cowboys among their bottom three.

The Patriots, by contrast, racked up their high dislike rate without the benefit of such intense hatred from specific fan bases. No single group of fans even cracked 35 percent, in terms of the share who ranked New England among their bottom three teams."

I am firm believer in the more "haters" you have the better you're doing. If we aren't above 30.7% next year then we aren't doing something right!

normally you are correct, in this case, i believe the hate is deep seeded. SOme have cause, a play and we got a win we didnt deserve or Roger Staubach made a comeback and they lost big money. I can get some of that, its just going to grind you up every time we all have something like that. Sports is very personal with some people and the hate can be really deep or something as stupid as "well i dont like that city, or state"

The article itself suggests only that the Cowboys are the most hated as well as the second most popular NFL franchise. While it speaks of "hate-watching" in its introduction, it never establishes a link between being hated and drawing TV ratings. Nor does anything in the data it presents suggest such a link.

Is "hate-watching" even a real phenomenon? I hate the Eagles but I certainly don't go out of my way to watch them when they're not playing the Cowboys. I'll default to the Eagles game only if there isn't a match-up between two more competitive teams that I'd rather watch.
I do. I watch all NFCE teams. I hate all of our division.

23% of people listed Green Bay as 1 of there top 3 teams..... That is the only way they can get it to come out anyway other than Dallas Cowboys NO 1.

Interesting -- I didn't even notice the nuance of 'One of their Top 3 teams". Good catch.

ah I love all the hate and especially knowing both the skins and eagles hate the cowboys the most. just means we are in their heads. all the time.

22 NFC East titles will do that, especially when the remaining division teams are still stuck in single digits.

Wow, we haven't been past the second round of the playoffs in over 20 years and we are still the most hated.

LOL

Interesting article on FiveThirtyEight that provides an interesting proof-point on why the Cowboys are the most watched, most followed, America's team, etc team in the NFL.

While the Cowboys are ranked, surprisingly, as the #2 team (19.1% of all dans) by fans as their 'Favorite Team', they are also ranked #1 (30.7%) by fans as their 'Least Favorite Team'.

Basically 49.8% (half!) of all NFL fans are willing to take the time to watch the Cowboys win OR loose when they play.

Amazing!

Every actor and actress will tell you, honestly: being the Villain is much more fun than being the Hero.
Me rikey.

The Cowboys have been the envy of the League for as long as l can recall..and that's a long time!! Started with the America's Team label and got worse with all the past success.

People who matter just want people watching for whatever reason. It's why we have so many games. Let them hate. Doesn't affect the team.

Guessing most don't know what entails being a hero.
I'm willing to bet they're talking about how, generally, villains are more dynamic and interesting in movies, or episodic shows than heroes- that are usually straight-men, as far as playing characters.
Not that they are seriously saying they'd rather be a real life villain than a real life hero.

As I said, most don't know what entails being a hero. Villians are easier to define.
