You would think either Quinn or another within his current staff will be running the defense next season. Almost impossible hiring an outside DC for a lame duck HC. Figure they will run the same scheme, maybe with a few tweaks.

DE-my opinion Parsons is more of an off the ball chess piece then he is as a down lineman. DLaw is getting older, but still playing at a high level. Armstrong is a fa, where his play is pretty much average. Fowler also a fa is a good situational pass rusher. Both players might follow Quinn if he departs. Can they trust Sam Williams on and off the field if given a starter role. Golston hasn't shown anything in 3 seasons. Fehoko is a green prospect at this juncture.

Priority Need

DT-Osa had a breakout season, but just recorded 3 sacks as the 3T, which isn't enough. He also has issues stopping the run. How many years are the Cowboys going to band-aid the 1T position? What is Mazi, as they had him lose a ton of weight? Gallimore is a waste of a roster spot.

Priority Need

LB-Lve's career appears over, he was the only legitimate linebacker on this current roster. Overshown showed some flashes by coming off an acl injury and is another hybrid type of S/LB that lacks size. Clark has shown to have poor instincts. Bell is a safety forced to play Linebacker.

Priority Need

CB-Diggs to coming back, but we have seen how players respond after tearing their acl. Gilmore most likely won't return and he just had shoulder surgery. Lewis is a fa and also isn't expected back. Is Bland a better slot or outside corner? Really don't have much behind this group.

Medium

S-biggest disappoint positional group last season. Kearse play really fell off as he won't be returning. Wilson had his struggles, but looked to be getting better towards late in the season. Hooker doesn't make many plays, but is rarely out of position. Thomas showed some potential.

Agree with all. We can free up a lot of money if we want to go in via extensions, restructures and cuts. I’m hoping we’ll use a lot of that money in FA to attack those needs.

DT - DJ Reader
LBr - Frankie Luvu
CB - JLew (+ Diggs comes back)

We’re not even including O where I’d also look to bring in a vet RB and resign Tyron. At DE we really need Williams to make that jump. After all those moves though I’d still be fine double dipping in rounds 1-3 if it’s BPA.

The class appears to be deep at OL, WR, CB and Edge so good opportunity to add some additional pieces early.

Fixing the number 5 ranked defense with a top 3 defensive player in the NFL and probably the best cornerback tandem in the league to start with. You have big problems if you can’t do anything with that advantage. The Ravens signed so many one year defensive players last offseason that have really panned out, same for Cleveland. The Cowboys need to stop being cheap when it comes to free agency. Bell will play Kearse’s spot.

With a reportedly shallow draft it wont be easy. How the first three picks go in the draft could be a mix of offense/defense or all one side. Both sides need fixing IMO.

All the more reason to spend in FA.

That being said still think you can add contributors in rounds 1-3 for defense.

Didn’t Reader just tear his quad, heard he might be out until mid next season. However, really like the player. Wouldn’t count on this front office changing their ways, they will continue to sign stop gap low rentals in fa.

Ahh didn’t know that. If so other good options available. Spend the money and go get Wilkins.

Or Chris Jones, or the next guy on the list. Literally pick your fighter and it’s better than what we got last year and is an upgrade.
Also pretty much 0 chance of being a FA lol. KC has a ton of cap space as it stands, and that's without the Mahomes restructure. Even at $30+ on the tag, the Chiefs aren't just going to let Jones walk.

Same with Madabuike

These difference-making DTs are way too valuable for teams to let them get to UFA.

You never know…target the top dogs first with the solid starters as the back up options. Just do something.

Much easier building when you have front 7 players. On top of this, we have seen players struggle after acl injury, what can we expect from Diggs next season?

No doubt, just started looking at the defense first

You have to go buy a front seven like the Eagles and 49ers. The Raven came into the season with Raquan Smith and a bunch of safeties. McDonald developed a scheme that worked and brought in a bunch of veterans to support their young defensive lineman that popped. Ramsey tore his ACL and was fine. He also tore his MCL and played well enough.

How has my pet cat Travis Jones played?

We have to dive into the FA pool this year or we will not make the playoffs. There is a strong list of DT candidates this year and we need to sign one of them. I love Christian Wilkins first, but Reader is an excellent option too. They are going to cost big, but that is what it will take.

Reader / Wilkins + Luvu would be a grand sam IMO.
