if Seatle stays teh course, yes they should be considered contenders. Will it be easier than the AFC, thats going to depend on SF who is good but not good enough to beat Seattle. Sorry if it depresses you, but if i had to say who has the better chance, definetly Seattle over denver.

and as for Denver beating SD? Who? When was SD ever relevant?

New England wont lay down. the chiefs are 50/50.

What about Indy? Wouldnt they have a good shot, Pittsburgh? You have some teams on the AFC that make getting to the top hard, but not in the season. Denver knows SD wont throw up a fight, most likely the Raiders are going to roll over. Is Miami going to shoot to the top? Jacksonville? the Browns? Jets? Most of these teams are going to sit down and let the season play out. That doesnt mean they are instant contenders, just means they got through the season.

and you are wrong..denvers road to the super bowl is FAAAAAAR easier than Seattles...

Why? Wil the eagles be putting up a fight? GB? Detroit? Chicago? the falcons yet again? What has many of the NFC teams right now done to prove they can contend with Seattles defense? im not saying its going to be easier for Seattle barring injuries, but you have to admit that defense is good. Theres a better chance neither teams gets back, but for right now at this moment, you have to say Seatle looks like they have a better chance on paper.

because the AFC is garbage...the NFC is significantly better...

Shining Star, you really aren't making sense. If anyone is a contender in the AFC, it's the defending AFC Champions. By the way, they've been loading up on free agents...which means they are already better (albeit on paper) than they were last year.

It was just Seattles day that day. If they played that super bowl five times Denver wins three of them. Payton Manning has made a career of making great defenses look stupid. Just not on that one given Sunday.

im just saying Denver isnt a contender. Sorry but its true, and everyone should have looked real hard at that SB. Im no fan of JOhn Fox or Jack Del Rio, and they went out and proved me right.

Are you talking about the same Denver team they just played in the Super Bowl? If you are in the Super Bowl, you are a contender.

I'm not so sure about that. They took what Denver did best, much like Belichek does, the crossing pattern and eliminated that.

im saying when your best isnt good enough, than that tells you what you need to know. That SB was over befire it began because Denver never played or planned for a D that good. IT wasnt exotic, it wasnt complex, it was just well coached players who did their jobs and had hustle. Kudos for Seattle going simple but effective and bad for Denver to not go after what they had to. Even Seattle players and informed people said Denver just had to play a route or two and it would cause havoc for Seattle, but Denver never got rolling and Seattle stepped on the accelerator. It happens, but if that was the best you were, and for Denver its the best they have been in a long time, it just wasnt good enough. Now they know they are going to have to change things up, and i can assure like Dallas and Dallas fans are goign to realize, the NFL is not going to sit idly by and not get better, (certain teams). So next year is going to be harder for Denver.

So are they contenders right now for the SB im not thinking of them as leading the pack.

You realize they play in the AFC and they don't have to play Seattle to get back to the SuperBowl.

Even if what you say is true, Denver is still the 2nd best team in the NFL and the best team in the AFC.

Not sure how they are not leading the pack in the AFC. Outside of maybe New England, nobody in the AFC can play with Denver.

If Denver just played in the SB and is no longer considered a contender, then what the hell does that make us with our annual Opie 500 tour?

exactly what we are, not even worth showing up.

Listen im not saying Denver has a chance but lets not think Indy, Pittsburgh, the Pats, possibly the Chiefs are going to sit idly by, put some brain cells together people. The age of parity is here and todays winners are tomorrows .500 teams and vice versa.

But lets not sit here and play kids games, that Seattle defense shut down that so called potent offense. End of story, check the final score. If any team gets it together in the AFC and puts up a solid defense, than thats something Denver is going to contend with.

I said it before ill write it down again, Seattle won because Denver did not play a defense like that all season. Did denver have a chance, yes, but their coaches failed as much as the players did that day and i wouldnt pin that loss on one said player or coach, but both sides failed. Call it whatever you want, but the score says one team won and the other didnt. Simple as that.

Can Denver be a contender, every one is within reason and like some posters here said before, lcak of injuries and get hot in december and you are in, see the Giants 07 season. If you cant see the parity, go see the Chiefs. A few bad teams, a few calls go their way and you go from bottom of the league to the top. Did i feel they were contenders? no, and they proved it true. Its not just wns and losses and saying "well those in teh SB in the prvious year are conteneders? Again no, go see the alst few winners.

It happens, football is set up for whoever plays better that day, not who is the better team. I have seen a great Dallas team lose to a bad Giants team and I seen a great giants team lose to a bad Dallas team , any given sunday, whoever happens to play better that day. That is it, no big secret. Do i feel Denver is a contender right now, no, signing Ware doesnt auitmatically make their defense better.

I would take that Super Bowl as an off game for them. It was the worst time of the year to have an off game, but give Seattle a lot of credit too. They had Denver's number.

Remember this was the same Denver coaching staff that won a playoff spot and won playoff games with Tebow as QB. I'm not a huge John Fox fan myself, but I would take him over our existing coaching regime. Denver at this point is more of a contender than we are.

Broncos and Manning lose that game 9 of 10 times.
They got crushed by same team earlier in the year in their house.
That was no anomoly.

13-3 and then going all the way to the SB is not failure.
Clearly that game snowballed on them.

to claim a team that has not lost anyone basically, that made the SB the previous year is not a contender, is one of the absolute best candidates for worst post of the year.

Even though he has bactracked its still a contender
