Flank, Flex, Trap, Cut: How Cowboys' Kellen Moore uses magic to keeps defenses guessing

I'd be fine with the sinking and dunking if he can finish off with touchdowns. We saw Stafford do exactly that against the same defense dak saw 3 weeks ago
well, you got to take into account that dak isn't as good as stafford.

A good read on the value of Moore as our OC...Jason Garrett he definitely is not.

In Week 1’s second look at the tape, an examination revealed how Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore used a very balanced 12 personnel set, a one RB, two TE, two WR formation to stretch Tampa Bay’s stacked defensive fronts and isolate Amari Cooper on linebackers and safeties.

In Week 2, Dallas faced a very different style of defense and Moore adjusted his approach, boding well for Dallas’ ability to attack each opponent throughout the course of the 2021 season.
Thank you for posting this. A great read!

So you are saying that you and Jason Garrett are both stuck in 2008?

If you remember, Garrett’s offense was usually one of the best. It couldn’t quite get us over the hump, though, for 2 reasons: 1)many of those years the defense was inadequate, and 2)the concept was outdated. We never had the talent to just lineup, play one style and consistently win.

Garrett was a decent OC, but a crappy HC.

Honestly, I think Romo bailed Garrett out more than the fact that he was a good OC.

It's a HS Offense. Slants and misdirection to help a smart, strong, athletic QB who has trouble with downfield accuracy.
Slants and misdirection are an essential part of the modern NFL offense that happens to be winning Super Bowls. In the last 20 years, the only time a Coryell offense like Kellen, Jason, Linehan, etc prefer to run was Manning’s Colts (that Manning customized) and Warner’s Rams (which was based on speed). But other than those two, the Ravens won a Super Bowl with Jim Caldwell taking a failing and fired Cam Cameron offense and solving all the repetitive weaknesses; last year Arians offense which is a branch of Coryell was frustrating Brady because it lacked the quick pass and misdirection so half way through the year, Brady corrected the Coryell flaws. When Arians was with Pitt, his offense was also modified from the Coryell predictability.
But aside from Super Bowls, the Coryell problem is lots of yards between the 20s but lacking short area misdirection and quick pass features, the offense produces a lot of FGs. In short areas the playing space for those 4-5 WR sets that are based on height or leaping matchups end up being like backyard football and teams like the Steelers did to Dallas last year, can just attack the QB. Kellen forgets play action at crucial times and goes into these sack happy formations. The big problem with Coryell is game tape. Teams know route combinations and tendencies. Eberflus pointed out that when the Colts beat Dallas it was because he knew their route combinations.
Coryell alway gets yards. And especially with a new coordinator before teams figure out the repetitive tendencies, Coryell will have success with yards. Appears promising. Appears like “now we just need to make those into TDs”. But it’s always the same FG and disappointment unless like Brady or like what McCarthy is gradually changing about Kellen: Coryell blames the players.
There were 11 Offensive Coordinators fired last year. 10 of the 11 were Coryell.
Selah.

Anybody who believes this knows nothing about football and no clue what they are watching.

They should turn off the TV and stick with needlepoint.

Kellen Moore is the wizard that uses magic to keep defenses guessing... and don't you forget it.

Better than Garrett, but they did basically get shut down the next 2.5quarters

he has only game planned for 2 games so how can you tell he progressed? He sucked last game against Chargers and continues to struggle in the red zone. Though it’s not his fault, he also takes no deep shots despite having the QB for it (our offensive line can’t stay up long enough though so I guess I can’t completely put the blame on him).

he’s not ready for HC. They will look for someone with more experience.
:muttley:

K. Moore is way over rated in my opinion. The guy is a genius from 20 to 20 as was Garrett. At least in Dallas:laugh:. But if Moore starts putting MORE touch downs on the board versus field goals I might be a believer. For me it's not the yards. It's the touchdowns. Until he starts to be better in the redzone. I don't see all the love for Moore.

I didn’t bother to read the article, but notice the “stacked defensive fronts”. TB was basically exposing their secondary all day to a QB, while loading the box…. They basically dare Dak to beat them, making it easy for the OC to get Amari isolated on MAN… Reading this forum, you would think Dak is the LEGEND that frightens defenses all across the league…. How May catches did Amari have against SD against a team that plays almost exclusively zone?

How many offensive possessions were there week 2 vs week 1? Way to leave out relevant info to fit you agenda.

Its not the Chargers fault the Cowboys couldn’t sustain drives…. On one of our own drives, we were assisted by a PI call on a fourth and 1 as well.. also Dak’s performances against zone historically attest to his mediocre performances against zone. Hardly leaving our relevant information..

Kellen Moore is doing what most coaches do

attack the weakness of a defense ...no coach has any business in the league saying "this is what we do well and its what we are going to do week in and week out"

you see teams throwing about 80% of the time vs Tampa because their D doesnt mind giving up those yards theyre focused on shutting down the run the pass is what theyre weak against

this aint the 50s you have to scheme and attack weaknesses

Only thing that confuses defense about Kellen Moore's offense is when he does not throw or run the ball with Zeke Elliott in the red zone.

Cowboys lost week 1 because of special teams and Kellen Moore not knowing how to close a game out from the hands of Tom Brady.

Um, who said anything about the Chargers? You were talking about Dak to Cooper catches week #2 vs the TB game. You don't think that only having 8 possessions is relevant?

Anyway, he play fine against the zone (outside a bad int) executing the quick passing game plan his coaches laid out:

Yeah, I already said he’s a dink and dunk QB that takes no risks against a zone. It’s his historical trend, like the Colts in 2019, who played heavy cover 2 zone. That’s not the passing game his coaches laid out. And the throws like the right sideline to Amari was man coverage sideline route, such as the 12 yard one indicated there, was with one deep safety and Dak looking the whole way there.
