Lenard Davis got $23 Mil over the first three yrs of his contract, including a $16 Mil signing bonus. So in some form, more than half of Flo's $42 Mil contract will be paid in the first three years.

So effectively, I'm guessing this is the equivalent of a 3-year $24 Mil contract w/ $16 Mil guaranteed. I'm guessing its a cap friendly deal with roster bonuses that can be guaranteed to pro-rate over the life of the contract.

$8 Mil a year for 3 years is honestly pretty fair at the end of the day for Flozell. I wouldn't suggest Dallas overpaid at all if this is the structure. I'm not totally convinced this is a hometown discount either, but I could be wrong.

I could see scenario's where Flo's contract wouldn't count more than $2.5 Mil agains the cap in 08...

That certainly is a lot of money, assuming this is true. We've got a lot of green tied into this line now.

hate to break it to ya but 5 time pro bowl LT's don't grow on trees and they don't come cheap. protecting Romo is priority #1 and worth every dime.

You don't understand contracts and the cap dude, crawl off the ledge. Divide the signing bonus over the six years and add that to the first year money. Don't just divide up the whole deal over 6 years.

Jerry has invested alot of money into the team period.

If you look at each individual position on the team, the only position that doesn't cost much is the kicker and the long snapper.

I don't remember which Flozell story had those comments from his agent, but he suggested Flozell got a little more than Lenard over the first three years of the deal. Sorry, no link. The rest is pure speculation by me.

Probably why we don't have that much cap space too.

Got that right....I think the lowest paid (real dollars, not cap dollars- besides FB) projected starter right now is Canty at $2 Mil?

Dallas, at some point, will probably have go cheap at a few positions. Gotta pick a few players to replace in the next 1-2 yrs. R. Williams? Henry? Columbo? Canty? I don't think we can keep them all-but hey, gotta love JJ's commitment to winning.

It's not a bad position actually. Being tight against the cap with a good team is much more preferable than being in cap hell with a bad team.

24 million in the first three years? How about something like this, that wouldn't be bad at all.

2008: 2.5 million from signing bonus + 3.5 million base = 6.0 million cap hit
2009: 2.5 million from signing bonus + 6.0 million base = 8.5 million cap hit
2010: 2.5 million from signing bonus + 7.0 million base = 9.5 million cap hit

Flo's cap hit in 2007 was 7 million, it's not a big jump at all and it would keep Flo's increasing cap hit at least with the rate of the increasing cap total.

Its actually looking like there won't be a cap by then. But you have to remember that some guys will be gone by then and a lot of money will be off the books and the cap if it exists will go up.

Clearly, but we haven't won a playoff game in ages, I'd like to get a couple of those under our belts before we hit the ceiling and have to start cutting back.

I agree. We definitely need to start winning some P.O. games. But you know what this team reminds me of? The Colts. They established how to be a winning team and then had to establish how to be a playoff team to finally winning it all.

Not suggesting the 'boys winning it all in the next three years. But if you look at when Dungy took over the team. It was a matter of teaching them how to get over the hump. That being the pats.

For the 'boys it's getting over the sense of entitlement that some engaged in as well as getting over the underachieving mentality that's hung over this team.

I've thought the same thing, comparison wise and about the sense of entitlement. Let's hope we do some damage during and after December this year.
