Floyd was 5th on our draft board, why did we pass him up?

Sapp was more like russell maryland. Floyd is more like a smaller version of the Williams in Minnie. Yes stats do not translate to what you are going to do but if he could only get 4 sacks in all of callege against talent that is worse tha the NFL's talent how id he going to handle playing against what is essentially a 5 man line that was one of the best at their position in college.

Say whaaaat?

Well the obvious answer: The Cowboys avoid SEC players like the plague! lol

It's a sound theory...SEC players know how to win and play for championships...that doesn't fit the mold here.

In college he played against good lines but most of those lines on average maybe had 1 or 2 NFL capable lineman. He is coming to NFL where even the worst linemen were good lineman in college. All this talk he played in the backfield but evidently did not have either quickness, technique, or speed to get to the QB. It isn't like his last year in college was like the one season spencer had where had a lot of "almost" sacks floyd is not a sack master DL but in the tampa 2 your dt should approach double digit sacks maybe not get them but if your DT can get 7-8 sacks that is awesome. Floyd takes me as DT that has to get lucky to get a sack.

You realize that works both ways, right? He's coming to the NFL where he's not going to be the only good player on the DL now, so teams won't be gameplanning to stop him all the time like they did in college. Now he's going to be playing next to an All Pro in Kevin Williams, which will certainly free him up to cause some havoc.

Also, he recorded 26 TFL in 26 college starts, so i think its more than talk that he played in the backfield. Of course, all you have to do is watch his college games to know that, as well.

Your characterization of Floyd is as a 6th or 7th round pick or possibly a free agent. Small space eaters don't tend to be very successful in the NFL. There were a decent number of space eaters in this draft--they weren't even on the Cowboys board, much less 5th overall--so clearly the Cowboys don't agree with your evaluation.

We're not going to agree on Floyd, or even come close. We'll just have to see how he plays...

I'd understand if we had a young, blue chip type player at the 1 tech...

but we don't.

I'm not saying Floyd is a can't miss, he would've filled a big need and he was 5th on our board.

You are right we are not going to agree. While watching him I see more marcus spears than russell maryland. Remember The tuna wanted to take Spears before Ware. I think Floyd will be a solid pro but just does not fit int he Tampa 2 scheme.
