looked everywhere but can only find he signed 6 year deal before '08 season for 43 million, included 13 million signing bonus and about 24 million over first three years. Next year (2010) is critical year in his contract and might force Dallas to keep him for another year. Unfortunately I think releasing Flo will be too costly to Dallas Salary Cap and thus Doug Free spends another year working with backups....which is shame because he might have most upside of any Tackle on the team.

This is the best place for all cap-related stuff. Rotoworld isn't as good.

1998 4/2.54 TRV, .3/.375/.45/.525 BS
1998 .89 SB/4
2002 4.92 Franchise tag
2003 5/25.5 TRV, .53/.57/3.9/5/5 BS
2003 10 SB/5
2004 .5 RB
2008 6/44.4 TRV, 1/1/5/5.1/5.1/5.1 BS
2008 13 SB/6 (12.587658 PV calc)
2008-2009 BS guaranteed
2009-2013 .1 WO
2010 2.5 RB
2011-2013 2 RB

RB= roster bonus, WO= Work out bonus, BS= Base salary, SB= Signing bonus, PV= Present Value, forgot what TRV is.

Overall, Flo has a $5.0M salary in '10, a $2.6M roster+workout bonus, and an overall $9.8M cap hit in '10.

He's gone baby !!!!!!:laugh1:

I don't think you understand the implications of cutting him... we'd take about a 10 mill cap hit if we cut him. His 15 mill or so in bonus will kill us -- we've only taken about 5 mill of charge on that, the rest accelerates to the 2010 cap.

By the way, the '10 cap charges chart from that thread:

Note also that some of these contracts are voidable and such, but not reflected that they will void-- like Marcus Spears, who will be a free agent since his '10 year is voided.

It's $13M in signing bonus, the remaining $2M is from guaranteed base salaries, which I don't think is pro-rated. So it'd be an $8.7M cap hit IF there was a cap, but only a $9.8M cap hit if we keep him, making cutting him unfeasible-- we save only $1.1M in cap space.

If there's no cap, however we end up saving about $7.5M in salary.

So what's the solution?

Let him play out the contract?

Rough numbers...

If there is a cap in 2010

Stays = $8.225 M Cap Hit. He receives $2.5 M roster bonus and $5 M base salary. $7.5 M in actual money Jerry would pay Flozell in 2010.

Cut = $10.4 M Cap Hit. So it would actually cost us an additional $2.175 M in cap room to release him but actual money paid out by Jerry is $0.

If there is no cap in 2010.

Stays = costs Jerry $7.5 M.
Goes = costs Jerry $ 0.

If there isn't a cap, I could see Jerry ripping up his deal and signing him to a shorter, cheaper contract (2-year deal maybe?) . Flozell has zero leverage and would actually receive more guaranteed money by doing this.

I say cap or no cap. Cut his ***. We need a future LT either with Free or the first few rounds of the draft this year.

a big contract generally means you are committed to the player for 3 years. after 3, you save money to cut the guy in most cases

Of course, folks who don't think Flo is worth the money really don't watch much football. Yes, he has trouble with speed rushers. So do all the LTs in the league outside the 2 or 3 best.

Flozell has given up 7 sacks and has his usual share of stupid penalties.

If I'm GM I force myself to get younger by cutting Flo and starting Free at LT.

Draft at least 1-2 OT's who are big enough and athletic enough to play both LT and RT.

Stay away from RTO's = Right Tackle Only

If they strike out at RT there is no other spot for them on the line/roster.
