The first words out of my mouth when the trade happened were "Darren McFadden in 2008!"UofAFan32;1486729 said:I am a huge DMac fan so thanks

If the goal is to win a Super Bowl, history's shown that top ten running backs are not the way to go. With the exception of Jamal Lewis, who had the benefit of that tremendous defense, top running backs don't win in the salary cap era.
Even a great running back isn't worth the cap dollars that a top pick commands. The talent difference between the really great ones like say Tomlinson and the merely adequate ones like the Jones/Barber combo isn't large enough to justify the cap consequences. That's why the Chiefs are hinting of moving Larry Johnson.
If Dallas lands a top five pick from Cleveland, I hope they either go with a position where the talent gap justifies the cap gap like CB or even possibly edge rusher, or they trade down.
Again, I realize that with Dallas' history of upper echelon RBs it won't go over well, but in the end people just have to look at which RBs have won the Super Bowl in the cap era to realize that paying premium dollar for one isn't the best idea.

adamknite;1486780 said:You know, people have the right to like a player. Every year people have players they like in College and they want to see play for their favorite pro team as well. Does this mean that they should stop hoping their favorite team will land them just because there is a chance that they might not be able to? I liked Matt Jones and I wanted to see him as a Cowboy, but I didn't whine and moan when the Boys didn't get him, but I also still support him as a player on another team, just not when he's playing the boys. What is truly sad is the fact you felt the need to talk out of your butt. We're fans and as fans we want our team to land players we think are great, is this a crime to you?
superpunk;1486785 said:You mean like people drooling over Julius Jones' 2004-potential in an excuse-riddled-drool-fest every offseason? I agree. It's sickening.
dargonking999;1486801 said:Yea it is, but at least he plays for the cowboys
superpunk;1486806 said:As will whoever we decide to draft next year. Even if it IS McFadden - who is a rare talent, and certainly worthy of being drooled over.
