Regarding the Stanback comments........where does this "By all accounts Stanback would have likely been available in the 5th or even 6th round" come from? The truth is that by all accounts he would have never been available in the 5th round. I find it interesting that everyone who didn't like that pick always makes your exact same comments.

Exactly. Ireland said another team told the Cowboys that they were going to take him later in the fourth round. The Patriots didn't draft receivers in the first round, and things turned out for them. Let's see him get a chance to develop. He has a lot of physical talent. If Stanback hits, he could give us a starting receiver if Ireland's projection is on.

The Patriots paid the price in the AFC Championship game by not signing Deon Branch.

I think Reggie Brown for the Eagles is very good, and he could break out. Don't take the Eagles' receivers lightly.

The same one who took credit for Jummy's work and accomplishments. That's like the sponsor taking credit for the race car driver's performance.

As much as I don't like Jerry, I am willing to give him a chance and see if he has learned anything by his miserable results before - just like I had some choice or something. He'll most likely take credit for Parcells' putting this team together, just like it was him making the selections all along, wink, wink.

Still, we fans are stuck with him so I guess you just have to allow for things like that and hope for the best.

There are times I think he embarrasses me more than anyone else I have ever heard of. He's so rich he doesn't care what anyone thinks - it's what he wants to do so I wish him the best but don't fully expect it. If the Boys win another SB or two with BP's team, I fully expect Jethro to take all the credit for them. He is the way he is.

Exactly. Jerry Jones may have had the GM title, but he was not making the decisions on players via the draft - it was Jimmy. Once Jimmy left Jerry made the decisions until Parcells arrived, and even then Jones made moves regarding players that Parcells ostensibly winced at (T.O.).

I LOVE Jerry Jones the owner. And he's gotten better as a GM no doubt, but imo (and I very well could be wrong), there is a fundamental conflict of interest between being both owner and GM. I hope I am dead-wrong on Jones the GM. Nothing would make me happier.

maybe as a team they had something going on, ya know? maybe it wasn't one or the other (like far too many like to draw up in stupid - never to be proven - arguments) but what they could do together, ya think?

that's what we have to find again, that's all. maybe it's traditional maybe not. but from what i know of cowboys history we're far from traditional, yet we get mired in all that type of talk far too often.

jones would never hire a real coach. he did and let him drive for 4 years.

What exactly is the conflict of interest. Jones, the owner and general manager both want to win and willing to pay for whomever it takes. Lamar Hunt, George Hallas were also owners and general managers. If more owners were not bean counters there would probably be more owner gm's.

Most coaches can't be general managers as well, effectively because of the time invested in coaching. Ironically Jones is not a coach and has the time.
