well guys like TO and steve smith. Last monday night game we had julius jones said he steps his game up cause he knows all eyes are on him. Julius is slowly growing on me but that comment set him way back in my mind. stat wise its pretty common for guys to do better than normal on monday nights. Either give it your all every time you step on the field or I am not gonna respect you. Though its not like any players give a crap whether i respect them or not.
I didn't know Julius said that, but since it's JJ, my armchair shink analysis is that it's more a 'negative' incentive not to embarrass himself on national primetime tv than a 'positive' one to be 'the star'. Even the great Michael Jordan was motivated by such concerns, and Parcells too is a classic example of fear of losing, and the embarrassment it entails.
JJ strikes me as a player who always gives 100 percent, and I'd guess every single player feels a little extra adrenaline in primetime. Just the pre-game hoopla and the different schedule would do that. When it's a divisional or emotional match up, even more adrenaline. I think it'd be pretty tough to treat Monday nights like other games - the 'all eyes on you' significance is there for anyone who's not a robot.
But I suspect JJ gives it his all 24/7. I think he just realizes as a player who is still pretty much an unknown quantity to a lot of people (casual fans), MNF is the venue which could 'tag' him forever in some minds.
