For the sake of argument let’s assume we let Dak walk

That strength has been no better than 16th in redzone scoring over the last 3 years, twice in the 20's. That's with all these "weapons," too.

Garrett's fingerprints are all over those "last 3 years", not going to totally revamp Garrett's offense in one year.

And you have to throw out this year, imho, losing your starting qb plus all the Covid issues plus the o-line issues makes this season totally unique....

If we pay Dak big, do we have money left over to fill all the other gaps we have? Cap is decreasing this year. Will it increase the following year? The NFL is betting on everyone who stopped watching this past year because of Covid to return. It's my experience that when someone fills their time with something else, it's hard to go back to what you're used to. It'll be interesting to see if the NFL returns to what it was. I don't think it will but we'll see.

That really isn't the question. The real question is are we smart enough to fill all the other gaps we have. Multiple teams (two in our own division in the Commanders and Giants) have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that just signing a bunch of high dollar free agents doesn't automatically make you a contender. Hell with those two it hasn't even made them a legit playoff team. The only reason the Ratscums made the playoffs this year was Dak getting hurt. Otherwise they finish a distant second to the Cowboys in the division. Making Dak's deal work under the cap is relatively easy..,

Year 1 1 million salary 25 million prorated bonus
Year 2 6 million salary 25 million prorated bonus
Year 3 13 million salary 25 million prorated bonus
Year 4 20 million salary 25 million prorated bonus - 5 million roster bonus
Year 5 25 million salary 25 million prorated bonus - 5 million roster bonus

That's 200 million over 5 years. 125 million bonus.. guarantee the first three years. 145 million.

Gives him the highest annual value title for his agent to crow about and cuts his cap number to less than it was in 2020 over the first two seasons and even in year three it would be lower than the franchise tag cost this year. Gives him monster salaries in years 4 and 5 if the new CBA and TV deals go as expected while putting $125 million in his bank account tomorrow.

Done.

Just a reminder to those discussing trades.

Assume its a sign and trade--so a two-part deal
Dak would have to agree to sign the tag (we can tag him all we want but he has to actually sign it)
Dak would have to approve the destination or he would not sign the tag

I think we have a sizable segment of fans who’d support signing Dak. And then there’s a segment torn over the amount we pay him. But the amount of fans who absolutely want to rid ourselves of Dak is basically limited to a very small group who have never thought Dak was a Legit QB on any level.

I don't think that group is that small. No I don't believe they are the majority by any stretch but this noise has been too pervasive for too long for it be "just a handful of idiots." Unless that handful of idiots have the last name Jones and live in Highland Park..

You need to spread that over 4 years vs 5.
That's one of the big holdups....Dak wants a less team friendly 4 year deal. It's his right to want that, but its less flexible cap-wise.

Cause it’s the off-season. That’s what we do:))

Besides there’s so many opposed to resigning Dak , I’d like to see their proposals that’s going to keep this franchise competitive now and moving forward without Dak.

I'd like to see the one that's going to keep us competitive and moving forward if we do sign him.

Then what...

Draft a QB . Do we try and move up in draft and what do we give up assuming anyone takes the bait or do we settle for whatever falls in our slot??

And how long until he’s developed assuming our Football Idiots draft someone as good as Dak has been.

Do we extend Dalton or go after another aged veteran QB to tie us over until we find a draft pick as good as we got lucky with Dak.

How many years do we wait to become relevant and interesting again?

Im not sure everyone has thought this thru.

extend Dalton or give another guy a shot but don't spend more than 20 a year while drafting a guy to develop. Like the Dak draft you gotta let the QB fall to you.

Where as you made some very valid points, Prescott isn't going anywhere.

Exactly why HE has all the leverage as Jerry stated ......

I know that's what Dak and the agent want.. That's why the post new CBA/TV deal salaries are up in the 50 million per range. If Dak is playing well he will make beaucoup bucks those last two years. If he tanks he will likely get his original wish and be able to hit the market in 2024 .. But he won't be commanding 50 million a year if that happens. He'll be a 30 year old castoff who will have to play a one year prove it season somewhere else and ball out before he can ask for big $$$ again. If he turns down 200 million over the next 5 seasons because he wants to chase the rainbow more than he wants to play on a good team then sayonara..

So, for those wanting Dak gone, who is going to replace him? Realistically, there are no "elite" QB's just waiting for us to sign!! I just wish the FO would hurry up and do what they need to do with this whole Dak thing!! It's getting annoying!!

I agree but once they do get the deal signed the annoying comments will change to how Dak got paid too much.

Lame excuse. Garrett's fingerprints were all over the previous 5 years when they were in the top 10 4 times, lowest being #6, with the 2015 QB carousel being the outlier.

First off Patrick didn't say who told him that the seahawks were unhappy with Wilson. For all we know the janitor told him that. Next since there were reports about the seahawks looking to trade Wilson and even odds in Vegas before Wilson was on Dan Patrick's show and if they are so upset they could have talked to him after those reports went public. They could have either told him they were true or it might be the case when they say they listen to all trade offers for any player on the roster but then tell him they weren't trying to trade him. Maybe since management didn't talk to him after those reports surfaced he thought that maybe they were true and they weren't showing him any respect telling him until it was a done deal.

And how many of those years did the Cowboys have Romo, who made up for a lot of the Garrett bozo-ness?

All of them except the outlier. It seems you're saying Romo was able to overcome Garrett while Dak couldn't. We all know how Tony's career ended. Why go to the mat for Dak?

It's worth it to be rid of Dak.. Get with the program man..
Worked so well for the Commanders

The desire of this board to just wing it at QB despite the fact that every team who tries to do that being terrible is astounding.
