For those of us that peruse other MB's

It just wouldn't be the internet without a little riff-raff here and there, cowboy_ron.

Yea, I guess that's true cas

I am a member of Eagles, Giants, Commanders and Steelers message boards, too.

I've never quite understood why the Cowboys are so hated. Did the Cowboys win some Super Bowls through questionable officiating? That would be the Steelers.

Did the Cowboys cheat by videotaping opposing teams' signals? That would be the Patriots.

Nope, the Cowboys are classy, and in some bizarre way, I wonder if it's the Cowboys' classiness that causes some people to hate them.

As a rival fan, I guarantee you that's not it lol...

I think trolls are on every board, so that's not really a unique problem here.

At one time, Cowboy fans were considered classy, just like the team during the Landry years. When Jerry bought the team and the circus came to town, some of the class went out the door. I have noticed that these MBs show the class has left most of the fanbase as well.

Pretty much.

Some people think boards should be nothing but virtual pep rallies. Others think they exist to discuss it all -- good and bad.

Second!

I have a question.

I'm on a few MB's with the same username as I have here...I'm proud to be a Cowboys fan and am proud to show it

This seems to be an issue on several Cowboys boards and not so much on other boards, but it seems like (with a few exceptions) that fans of other teams feel the need to slide in the back door (so to speak), to register as a Cowboys fan then bash every single thing the team does....I personally have more respect for other teams fans that come here representing their team of choice and just talk football than I do for the ones that come in pretending to be a Boys fan.

I guess that's a differtence between Cowboys fans and those that are publicly ashamed of their team and feel the need to "hide" in a false representation.

Do any others tend to feel this way?
There aren't many opposing teams fans posting here right now.

And we don't have anyone posing as a Cowboys fan here either. Trolls and the like are sniffed out fairly quickly and dealt with.

During this time of the dead of the offseason, I feel like anyone who takes the time to discuss the good, bad, and the ugly of the Cowboys are true fans and aren't hiding behind some fake Cowboy fan persona. They're true Cowboys fans and are just posting their opinion, positive or negative.

As someone who posts more on a rival's message boards than I do here (I also post on another Cowboys board more than this one as well) I think I have the answer.

I post on the Giants message boards quite a bit using the same name. They actually have a smack talk area, as do the Eagles with their 'rant and rave' section, Saints with their 'locker room' section, Bears, Vikings, etc.

Most Cowboys boards do not have a similar area. Which sucks because we could obviously have one of the cooler names for such a forum--something along the lines of 'the saloon' or 'the shootout'.

But it also makes sense. How many other fans would be infesting these boards if we did? Not the classy fans who can engage in friendly banter and intelligent debate, but rather the kind that will make cracks at Dez' mom and spell Romo's name with a capital H.

Therefore, you'll get the faux Cowboys fans here that just post to get a rise out of people and subtley bash the cowboys any way they can.

They want to talk smack with us but can't do it openly because the Cowboys boards are moderated far more strictly than any other message board for one very good reason:

We're the most hated team in football.
Zone used to have a Smack talk zone. I forget the reason why, but it was removed some time ago.

I hope you don't mind me chiming in here, because I have a pretty good understanding of forum dynamics.

It is extremely rare for someone to be a fan of another team posing as a Cowboys fan on this forum. It has happened, but it is rare and usually these idiots out themselves very quickly. Let me be very succinct here, the staff on this site is quite simply the best group of Moderators you are ever likely to find. They genuinely care about every poster on this forum, and I know this for a 100% stone cold fact.

Please understand this, they disagree on topics on this forum, yet this staff never implodes. It never dissolves and devolves into bitter hatred and distrust. Even when they disagree, and believe me, there are disagreements, there is respect. I promise you those people would rather never have to be Moderators. They would rather just discuss the Cowboys like everyone else.

Sadly, some people simply can't allow that to happen. Trolling is a popular activity on the Internet. Point blank there are people who get their jollies from just being rude to anyone and everyone that they can and trying to stir up as much angst as they can. Yes, we have fans who fit that description. In a lot of ways I fit that description. I am probably the most abrasive poster on this forum. I know that. I've never run from that.

You will see less of that here than most other forums. With extremely rare exceptions everyone on this forum is a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. They are here season, or no season, talking Dallas Cowboys. There is a broad spectrum of opinions and knowledge, but I am confident that the active posters on this forum are loyal, die hard fans of this team.

No two fans are exactly alike, but there are groups of fans who have divided themselves from other groups of fans. No doubt about this at all. There is genuine dislike on the Internet and it does exist on this forum. Most of it is my fault. I won't deny that.

Much of it that exists here does so as a byproduct of acrimony being expressed on other forums. I am going to point blank say this and it will upset some people here. For the most part other forums cannot stand in this forum's shadow and not shiver from the cold.

This site has the best owner on the Internet. People here and on other forums really do not understand Forums, the Internet, and other things that this man does. This forum will never be hacked. It rarely ever slows down even when we have well over 1000 active users online at the same time. You rarely see Spam here, and he has almost perfected the methods of sniffing those particular Internet idiots out.

This site is the best run site you are likely to ever find because every effort is made to make this site usable 100% of the time, and friendly. The last part is a goal. It doesn't always happen. The Mods try their best, but even their best efforts can fall short. Point blank, they are human and they have emotions and lives away from here.

But I will tell you the best thing of all about this forum that many others cannot claim. This site is run for the forum members, not for the owner, not for the staff. If donations and ad revenues don't meet server costs the site owner pays them. Out of his own pocket, and never says a word about it. Never complains.

No one is trying to sell you anything here. Several of us have mentioned that we could sell merchandise and help the forum costs. He patiently listens, but usually does not follow through because he's not interested in making money here. He just wants to provide a forum where Cowboys fans can talk football.

I've seen other forums where if you don't fit in, they ban you. Never happens here. If someone gets banned here you can bet your brass they pushed the wrong buttons and usually over and over and over again. If anyone tells you differently, be very wary of their story.

You'll never see this forum exhibiting extreme jealousy over another forum. There's no reason to. Most of them aren't worth the time of day to visit unless it is for a chuckle. Here, you are going to find every scrap of news about the Dallas Cowboys that is out there on the Internet, and sometimes before the major news sources hear it.

Here you are going to find discussions on every topic surrounding the Dallas Cowboys and all opinions, positive and negative, are welcome, even though those who are constantly negative don't feel they are. Pay no attention to that claim because it simply isn't true. Usually those who make that claim simply want everyone to agree with their views and that is quite simply impossible.

But make no mistake about it, there are very few if any people here pretending to be fans who really aren't. If that exists on other forums look no further than the owner of the site and the staff in place to lay blame. It means that is what they want on their forum.

I can tell you without a doubt that every active poster on this forum, even those who vehemently disagree with me, are top notch Dallas Cowboys fans. Other forums will never have what we have here no matter how hard they try because they don't deserve what the fans here do, and simply put that is a forum with few glitches, fair rules, a dedicated and fair staff, and loyal fans as posters.

I know I went all over the place in explaining this, but I wanted to make it clear, posers are not welcome here, and they will get caught. The people here, on all sides of the coin are not posers. They are not trolls. They are not fake fans.

All posters have faults. All forums have faults. As big as this place is, you'll find fewer faults here than any other forum out there for this very simple reason. This forum doesn't just claim to be about the Dallas Cowboys, it is about the Dallas Cowboys. Good and bad alike.

I joined this board because I live in Chiefs country and that's all anybody talks about. I wanted to talk to Cowboys fans about Cowboys things.

Well said! I talk on a Mets message board and this is a night and day difference, most of those guys are clowns and don't know the slightest about baseball.

Well, you know the special affection I have for trolls... :D

But I like fans of other teams who are capable of coming in here and talking football seriously with us... our resident Skins fans are OK in my book (other than their one, obvious character defect)...

Fly your true colors, and don't be a jerk, and I'll welcome your contribution... of course, I welcome the trolls too, a bear's gotta eat, you know...

Think of this as a hypothetical scenario-- if there were message boards for other teams...

Wait a gosh darn second Hostile...

I am not a Cowboys fan.

I give you guys and your team their proper due from a different perspective than most of you look at it. And of course we don't always agree. That's real life.

I take my heat and beatings in stride because that is what a man does, I boast my fans and team because that is what a fan does.

None of us are perfect and you made an excellent post.

I think however what the OP is suggesting is that he gets railroaded.
I signed up here from the former board with the same username. Some boards will indeed not let you sign up with a username like I have. Sad right...:p:

Nothing about me has changed. Often it is the poster (as you stated) that makes it seem so different. I post on many different forums and never had a problem. I just for a lack of a better term..."stay true" to me.

At the end of the day poster should just be themselves. You of course get a little more freedom on your home turf, but even that gets called out quickly...if you are "that guy".
