For Those Saying We Can't Contend Next Season

For what? Making the post season? Competing for a SB? Go find me another team with a QB as good as Romo who you know is two years away.

The Cowboys are one strong offseason away. Will it happen? We'll see.

two year project to be serious super bowl contenders.

who is to say romo will play at the same level next year?

too many holes on this team that can be corrected in one offseason. 20+ free agents and most people only want to bring back two or three.

i think jason is going in the right direction, but you cant expect him to fix years of bad drafts in one offseason.

Please. The Giants and Cowboys are lucky it took Philly the entire season to gel. They will be the favorites going into next year to win the division. Eli owns the Cowboys and the Giants have won 5 of the last 6. I cannot see any way we compete next year. There is not some magic button that Jerry can push to fill all the holes needed this offseason. I just don't see it. This team will be 5-11 again before we contend again. I really believe that.

We won 1 playoff game in 16 years ... how are we two years away from a Super Bowl ???

***???

hey man why are you picking on me. at least i didn't say we have a chance to be contenders next season.

You know Dave you could be right.

The thing is this team has some very good talent at some positions and then the dregs are so bad as to erase the talent advantage the Cowboys do have.

Every team has a group of average guys starting. There's no way around it. With the cap and the roster limitations, you aren't going to have top-end talent at every position.

The difference between Dallas and say GB, Pittsburgh, NE and NO, is that they have far fewer dregs starting.

Who are the dregs on the Cowboys? I mean we know'em, but the worst offenders were:

Newman
James/Brooking
Coleman
Kosier
Costa

Go from dregs to even average players and you'll see a couple more wins.

Defense is obvious I think.

In my mind for us to truly compete and I mean compete with the teams you listed Romo is the key. He needs to stop running for his life every play and be able to scan what's going on. He missed allot of open players this year simply because he had no time to find them.

As well as he did play I just can't help but think how he would have done with more than a mostly below average O line.

Having Murray back will be a great asset also. But if we don't dramatically improve our O line 8-8 here we come again.

 the truth hurts. skins will actually have a legit qb next season too.

its not the "we cant compete next year" or "we dont have the cap to do it"

i just have no faith that this administration (and specifically our GM) have the correct ideas or the sense to do what is needed

i have said it before and will say it again

cut the deadweight

FA: (will not break the back)

OG (grubbs),
NT (soliai),
CB (the CB from tennessee)

Draft:

1) OLB (ingram; after trade down),
2a) jenkins or boykins,
2b: ben jones (OC)
3: OG (zeitler)
4: Best ILB or FS

Rat moves to DE (i know, i know)

tell me we cant compete with this roster as long as we are disciplined and our coaches know what the heck to do

If I knew, or anyone else on this forum knew, we would tell you!

Was that a trick question?

Well, we "could" do just about anything next year, including contend,,,, but we "could" have done that this year and the past several years as well. If you apply Jerry's M.O. then the odds are we will improve incrementally, we will add ONE lineman though we need at least two, and some people that should be gone will be hanging around (maybe even Newman). So sure, we could contend "if", but I've been saying that for years and the answer is usually some window dressing around the edges because Jerry consistently overrates his personnel.

You kinda have to think that at some point the light bulb will go on,,, surely...?

I'm hoping that Garrett is the guy he's billed to be. He can fix this. I just hope that he's up to the task.

so, youre HOPING he can do the job but

you KNOW that he can

hmmmmm....

gotcha ;)

I'm not a Soliai fan.

Costa made him "disappear". You didn't hear Soliai's name all game long.

Yeah Costa.

We have elite skill players in offense but not an Elite offense. Until our OL is good the Offense cannot become elite.

We will compete because the 10 players at the top of the roster are excellent but after that the talent is thin. Unless we luck out and we hit the MOTHER LOAD in the DRAFT and players from the LAST draft pan out we ain't going to the SB.

i always thought the talent was overrated 2008-2010. now, :lmao2:...very few good young players on this team.

demarco? lets see if he can stay healthy..

sean lee...we got one.

bruce carter? who knows..

tyron smith? will he have growing pains switching to the left side?

mike jenkins? can he stay healthy...

not many other young guys you can really depend on for the longterm future.

do people think bradie james, brooking, newman, kosier were here by choice this season? of course not. it's because we had years of inadequate drafts to replace these fossils.

Look around the league. The good teams have built through the draft and not free agency. I don't understand why everyone gets so excited about free agency. The bottom line, Jerry Jones and Co. have to draft better. Our first 3 picks this year need to be good enough to start first game next year. The 4th round pick needs to contribute immediately. We cannot stand any more drafts like 2009 Draft.

Yo. You have me wrong.

I meant to say that it is possible to turn it around and that I hope Jason Garrett is the guy.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure he's not. But I hope he is.

Is that more clear?

do you realize how many things would have to go perfect for this to happen?

sure, that looks good on paper, but the chances of that happening are negative zero, especially with jerry at the helm.

mark my words...jerry will respond to all this boycott talk by trying to sign or draft another skill position player. he will not go this entire offseason without throwing a "little spice" into the process.

Wow...lots of koolaide in here.....so all we need are 3 new players for the offensive line, hope Miles and Felix are not made of glass again next year, get 2 new safeties, a new corner, 2 new linebackers.....and these numbers don't even address having capable back-ups when injuries become a factor in December. Now take another sip while I tell you I heard we are in cap hell now with 20 million in dead money so don't be lookin for free agents to save us. And I think Jerry will still be our GM locking up mediocre talent and running the draft. This team was a paper tiger and collapsed as soon as it played better teams. This team wasn't going anywhere with all the holes and poor talent. And you think the same braintrust who brought us here these last 15 years is going to suddenly get enlightened in the next 3 months ? This team has a foundation of maybe 10 quality players and some of them are aging fast. It 's good to have a dream boys but this organization is years from seriously contending. If it ever does with Jerry as GM. We have fallen so low just getting to a playoff game is hard to fathom. Winning playoff games against top teams ? We can't even line up onsides half the time. Dave Campo is still a coach here ? Red had no real coaching experience and now is going to learn on the job how to use timeouts in the NFL ? Yah, we're going to be scary next year again but not in a good way. Watch the playoffs and see what genuinely well coached and talented teams look like and them look at the circus we have here.

Agreed. I think Tyron Smith will be ok at LT. He should've been at LT Day 1. There was no excuse for him not to be.

I would go foward 3 players on Defense...Ware, Lee, and possibly Jenkins. No one else is untouchable. Not even our 285lb Nose Tackle Jay Ratliff. There is no 3-4 defense in the NFL that features a 285lb NT. I'd even consider making Ware available if I trusted Jerry could draft good players with the picks.

Yeah Costa.

MW
one game doesnt make a season
there is a reason miami played very good defense and were stout against the run
that was soliai
not hearing his name is OK since his job is to clog the middle, draw the double team and let the DE and LB flow to the QB

but OK, change plans

could get a different NT

or

get campbell in FA
forget soliai

use one second rd pick on Poe (Kentucky)

what i am saying is that we can compete, we have the resources, the question is do we have the front office to get it done

i doubt that
