For those who think Tapper is 100% healthy

I presume this is the latest info on Tapper:

"A pars defect of the lumbar spine involves a part of a vertebra called the pars interarticularis. Roughly translated, that means "the part between two joints." A defect in the pars is a break in this portion of bone. This break leads to a separation of the upper, front portion of the vertebra from its lower, back portion." - LiveHealthy.chron.com.

Management of the condition is ongoing and treatment/physical therapy is provided as needed, which could include wearing a back brace and more.

How this diagnosis will impact his NFL career is to be determined, as the stresses placed upon the lower back in the sport of football directly agitate the condition. If Tapper can manage the condition, he could be a strong component for the Cowboys' front four defensively.

As seen in his blazing 4.59 40-yard dash at the combine, as well as in his numbers as a standout at Oklahoma.

Yeah, I think a pars defect nowadays is regarded as a stress fracture.

He had surgery on it and feels a lot better.

I take every injury report with a grain of salt. He wasnt supposed to miss the whole last season either.

I believe it is a long term management issue for the back. I presume some MDs will weigh in on this, but this does not look like something that will change over a 2 month time frame.

Note the title of the article: DE Charles Tapper cleared to return in 2017 for Dallas Cowboys

Thanks and lets hope for the best...

From your article, the condition was stated somewhat differently but a lot of it was the same and look like a bit of a cut and paste job:
"Management of the condition is ongoing and treatment/physical therapy is provided as needed, which could include wearing a back brace and more. After landing on the team's injured reserve list last season, it sounds like Tapper finally has the condition under control and expects it to be a nonissue going forward."

Very true, but the latest information is as follows:

It's something they'll always have to manage but at least now they know it's there to manage.

He's going to be a feared freak pass rusher whether you like it or not.

well he is a freak speed wise and only slower than Willis out of the DEs in this year's draft.
that includes 40 and 10 yd split.

lets hope you are right and it is not another ryan russell/matt johnson.
i have not researched what management of pars defect means.
may be one of the docs will chime in.

Waldo, did he have surgery for his spondylolysis? Or was it non-operative treatment?

This is what one article said so I presume so:
"Unfortunately, Tapper’s NFL time was delayed as he was diagnosed with Pars Defect, a stress fracture in the lumbar part of the spine (generally the L5) early on in training camp. He woke up one morning and thought he was paralyzed. Since birth, the condition had gone undetected and he played with the it while at Oklahoma, but after aggravating the injury, he had surgery and was place on injured reserve."

I started googling a bit on pars surgery. Apparently 80%-90% of athletes go back to their previous sports after surgery, but dont know if that is hard contact like football or track/field.

This article has conflicting views. States that Garrett "hopes" tapper will be ready by training camp. Just providing info - don't shoot the messenger. It's from March 2,2017

i have never seen garrett's point of view before...
what is particularly new for me is that i did not realize it may need 'ongoing management'.

tapper has always said 100% but dlaw is always positive also...
