I had a dream (i know its gonna sound wierd - but my name is Cowboyfreak :wink2: ) last night and in it was one of my childhood heroes-
Robert Newhouse -44

I , like Hos, love the fullback and loved Robert Newhouse as a kid.

Do any of you guys remember a play where he was running and got caught up in a pile - somehow busted out of it, minus a shoe ,and kept running with a big white sloppy sock slinging thru the air.

I would LOVE to see that play again, if someone has it.

I thought that was Earl Campbell. Newhouse was one of my favorites, but I don't remember any specific plays except for the half back pass in SB12.

I was a wrestler much more then a football player however I did play football my senior year of H.S.....I played ST and returned punts and was the backup fullback. I wore #44, i was a big fan of Robert Newhouse.... I loved watching that dude play ball......Now #44 is retired from my old high School, and as much as i would like it to be for me and my record setting 15 yard penalties in one season.....its for Shawne Merriman who played there years later and wore #44 and set untouchable numbers for tackles in a season and career. Completely off topic, but seeing your signature inspired me to share that one.

Robert Newhouse = BEAST!!!!

You are right - Earl Campbell does have a famous play very similar. But the House did the same thing

I remember the run you are talking about not sure where you can find a video of it but it did happen.

Newhouse used to work for the Cowboys ... probably still does.

You might be able to reach him.

also happened to herschell walker when he was with the vikings...

I swear if Newhouse ever got a forward lean and his legs pumping it took 4 to 5 guys or more to bring him down. The guy had serious pistons under him. One of the my all time favorite players.

It's actually happened a ton of times to a ton of players - don't remember the Robert Newhouse one but loved ol' Robert with them thighs the size of tree trunks.

My favorite memory of Robert Newhouse was how graciously he groomed Tony Dorsett to take his place. Much like the Rams' Marshall Faulk did for Steven Jackson. It was this kind of class that defined the Cowboys back then, and memories of it is what keeps me a Cowboys' Fan to this day...

Newhouse was a fullback not a tailback so how did TD take over for him?

If Newhouse had installed a little wheel on the front of his helmet he would have been unstoppable!!!

I recently re-watched the "Hail Mary" game and he was basically our whole running game that day. The funny thing is that I can't remember much about him after 1978. When did he hang it up?

TD took over for Preston Pearson who is an underrated player in cowboys lore also.
Preston was one of the smartest players from those 70's teams.
Great recieving rb...in fact I believe he was the player who they were talking about when they coined the phrase "3rd down back".
Some runningback's from the late 70's...
James Jones-#23
Preston Pearson-#26
Scott Laidlaw-#35
Robert Newhouse-#44
Tony Dorsett-#33
I'm forgetting some more.

I remember Robert Newhouse. I began noticing the Cowboys as a child back in the very late 70's. My older brother had that electric, vibrating football game (now a collector's item) that featured the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I still remember my brother sticking all of the adhesive numbers on the immovable player's jerseys before playing the game.

Reason I bring this up is that the blown up, colored picture on the front of the box that the game was incased in had an awesome, very upclose picture of Robert Newhouse trying to break through a gang of Pittsburgh Steeler tacklers. One being that of Jack Lambert, I believe. The thumb of Jack Lambert was grossly wrapped up with tape, looking like a big ball at the very end of it.

I definitely remember that picture, the game, and the memories. Good stuff.
