I hate the eagles and I always hated Trotter, because of his mouth and the plays he always made against us, so I gave him credit for something he never did.
While trying to prove a point, to a coworker that is also a Cowboys fan. he says Aikman never threw bad INTs or made bad decisions, I googled the INT that I always said was a 95yd int return by Trotter.
Well it was LB James Willis, who had the underneath coverage on Irvin and Troy vincent over the top. We were on the verge for a come from behind victory. The Boys were on the 5yd line, Troy went back to pass, a hole as big as the red sea parting, open up for a walk in TD run for Aikman ,but instead he threw the ball to a double covered Irvin 4yds deep in the end zone. I understand trusting his Favorite Target to come up with the ball, well it did not happen, the ball was picked by Willis 4yds deep, he ran it out and then lateraled to Vincent who took the int the rest of the way for what is now in the records as a 104yd pick 6, by aikman.
So I apologize to the zone and to trotter, willis and vincent.
Aikman by that time was having a lot of concussions, so I'll give him the benefit that he did not want to get another one with the playoffs coming, but it was 15 seconds left in the game, go for it. I also give Troy the benefit that he trusted his Wr to make a play, Irvin is the playmaker, but sometimes as we see even though we have exceptional receivers things happen, like Barbie getting up high enough to intercepte Romo's pass, but yet Romo could have taken an extra second in which he might have seen Phillips running open on a shorter route about 3/4 yards short of the first down marker, the man Barbie left open as he gambled and won with the pick 6.
I have been listening to a lot of pundits, talk about Romo decisions, that pass was and route was a 13yd come back toward the sideline, Dez had Chris Houston pinned on his back side, (I've rewatched the game 3 times now, plus the NFL replay) that pass would have been completed and we may have had a PI penalty added to the play, because Houston was all over Dez trying to get around him to make a play on the ball, but the barbie doll picked it, he had more hop in him than his boy Romo thought he had.
The second Int was on Robinson, just run the slant like it was designed, he took 2 jab steps to the outside, which Houston did not fall for and then tried to run the slant, Houston also could have been called for a PI then as well, but it was still within 5yds, he held robinson back that is why the ball was not batted down, the pass was on time and accurate, that was a completion if Robinson runs the route correctly.
The third Int, good read, good play call(all the plays were good play calls), but once your OL,(which had been playing lights out all day) was breached and Romo's space was invaded, Romo should have eiither thrown the ball away, or stepped into the pass and took the hit, to complete the pass, (ala aikman).
The Aikman 104yd pick 6 is still the worse play in my book, by a Cowboys QB. Craig Morton, Meredith, Staubach and White could have made worse, I watched them play, it is just hard to remember that far back to pick out a play worse, Troys is only 12yrs ago. Troys 5 int game against the gianst comes second in my book.
Romo has not done anything that tops those in my opinion, yeah he has multiple pick games, but all QBs have those type of games.
Romo will get us a SB win.
